Lamar & Deshaun

I’m shocked.
If we had put money on career paths that these guys would have had I would have bet that Deshaun had Lamar’s career and Lamar had Deshaun’s.
Obvs, going to the Texans was a bad thing and going to the Ravens was a good thing - that’s out of their control.
Careers aren’t over for these guys - Deshaun is 29 and Lamar is 28. But currently, Lamar is headed for the HOF and Deshaun is slated to make a bunch of $ and have a shorter career.
Is anyone else shocked or just me?

Lamar worked and overcame some of his passing game issues but also has maintained a threat to run as a QB for much longer than anyone else in the NFL. It certainly has also been helpful to have a good supporting cast around him.
Deshaun, OTOH, has no one to blame but himself. He has a good enough team to make the playoffs two years in a row, but when they made some decisions he didn't like, he quit and pouted. He also had the obvious off the field issues that were fueled by the same self-centered ego. The man we saw at Clemson (or thought we saw) did not seem to be the same one in the NFL, and that is what's surprising, to me.

Gave Watson an opportunity to get the key to the city.....but then destroy the city??
Gave Watson weapons to get the job done....but then took away the weapons and told him to basically start over as if he was a caveman.
Weapons that Watson had wanted more money....but the organization said no when those weapons were taking the team on the right path to great respectability in the league.
All that transpired with the back and forth so called business decisions the Texans did....could indeed change a man. As soon Watson wanted to break clear and clean after seeing all the bad decisions.............here comes all the extra attractive masseuses that suddenly felt violated and intimidated.

Stroud has done well there too, right after Deshaun.
I think maybe alot of people here are reluctant to admit that Lamar was more than a garbage time highlight player at Louisville.

He is likely to 'break through" but so far he's 3-5 in the playoffs with 10 TDs & 13 TO's

His work has made him what he is in the nfl. What he was at Louisville would have gotten him 3 years in the nfl.

But Watson nailed his first 2-3 years in Houston. He played well enough to land a monster contract after missing an entire year.
I guess my point is Lamar had a better situation at Baltimore, but he’s improved his craft while Watson dealt with personal issues and has looked nothing like his first couple of years.

Deshaun has been crazy successful from A financial standpoint, his talent is evident an I wouldn’t count him out just yet.
He’s the comeback kid, it’ll be inevitable to watch how he performs over the next 5-10 years.
I don’t think he’s going to make as much money but his best years could be yet to come.

If he hasn’t already made enough money to be set for life, then he is making poor decisions in other places than just in the massage table.

The Tnets are funny (not you). For so long they judged Lamar Jackson as being a thug and incapable of succeeding in the nfl. At the dismay of most tnetters, he is doing ok.

Surprising to me on several fronts

1) Lamar Jackson was recruited, coached, and mentored by Bobby Petrino, DW4 by Dabo Swinney. Not saying Dabo owns DW4's mistakes in judgement and behavior, but I am saying DW squandered a better role model.
2) Deshaun Watson was and is represented by professional agent David Mulugheta; Lamar Jackson and his uneducated mother reported have handled Jackson's negotiations with the Ravens.
Props to Jackson, who along with Michael Vick is the best running NFL QB I have seen in my lifetime, for working on his passing game. He has come along way. Deshaun Watson sadly, at this stage of his life, has lost most of his standing as a top tier player, winner and individual. Hopefully, DW4 will gain some of that back in the years ahead.

Deshaun was on his way to being one of the best in the league until he decided to be dumb.
