portal. The changes for next year seem to on the surface to allow for a more level playing field in maximizing nil at 22% of a school’s athletic budget. This is controlled and can be audited by the school. HOWEVER, the change still allows 3rd parties to engage in separate nil contracts with the athletes with no maximum.( This negates the first leveling of the field). If a collective or business that is an alumnus of a certain college wanted to offer a High School or transfer 30 million nil there is nothing to stop or control it. Let’s face it people, there is no longer amateurism in college sports. These athletes are now professionals. They can or their agent can negotiate their own contracts. UNFORTUNATELY, Dabo is going to have to play the professional sports program the way of Georgia, SC, Texas,Ohio State, Ole Miss, Oregon, Texas A&M, LSU, Michigan, Florida, Miami. Florida State, Louisville, SMU, and many many others or get left behind. Even Duke bought one of our recruits this time. There is no earthly way for Clemson to compete at a high level in the future unless we are willing to pay upfront money to these now professional athletes. I’m one of the very last on this board to want to do this. I have supported Dabo and his approach until now. I love and respect Dabo but he can no longer compete with his approach. We will continue to fall further and further behind playing our amateurs against someone else’s professionals.

Every scholarship counts agianst the limti for 5 years or until the player graduates from the school that signed him to a ship.
Miami can pay Cam Ward 1 million bucks. If he doesn't get a degree he counts against their limti for 5 years.
LSU can outbid Michigan and pay Bryce Underwood 3 million bucks. If he transfers after a year or two wh still counts as a ship. If he transfers to Michigan and plays one year then bolts for the NFL without getting a degree he counts as a ship for Michigan for 5 years.

I did not know that but I like that. You basically lose a scholarship for 5 years if a player who has not graduated transfers or declares early for NFL that has not graduated. Yes, if that is the case I like that.

You didn't read far enough. NIL has no limits because it is a law that allows men and women athletes to receive compensation for their Name, Image and Likeness. Our nation does not restrict people from making money nor does it set limits on what those earnings are.

Revenue sharing isn't NIL, no matter how the NCAA spins it.

It's straight up pay for play. There may be some University NIP in addition for joint marketing of merch or advertising.
However, private NIL is separate and always will be so even if the NCAA gets an antitrust exemption.

Alabama, Georgia, Tennesse have been doing the same thing with football players. At some point Dabo will have to enbrace the suck and start buying players or his program (the way he wants to run it) will slowly wither. If they expand to a 16 team playoff he may be able to hang on. If not the SEC and Big10 will simply get their 2 loss teams into the playoffs. Everyone else is stuck hoping they are undefeated or 1 loss at most.

Give some schools more money and then maybe that helps recruit some kids to stay or come.
What's interesting with NIL is how long can it sustain and will it evolve into something else. Your that attends games already gives a good chunk of money to the the donor, athletic club and tickets to football, basketball, etc. how long are they willing to give nil money when the product on the field doesn't produce the desired result? Whatever that may be.
In addition, the large donors at universities... How long are they willing to give big chunks of money and not get the return they want. Because on top of that they are still donating to the athletic department and other ventures within the university, not just to pay a 19-year-old kid $2 million.
Ultimately, the largest and most financially capable of schools need to split off for football only and form a league akin to the NFL.. unionize and collective bargaining can take place to level the field. Too much money and chaos rolling thru now.

A few of us have been saying this exact thing for awhile now and have been told… “but revenue sharing is coming and it will equal the playing field”. Lol no it won’t as the OP stated.
Players can and will still receive huge NIL paydays.
Our talent is getting less and less with each passing year regardless of what the 247 rankings say on paper.
We cannot continue to lose 10 players a year to the portal and replace them with high school freshmen. It’s an impossible task and can’t be done.
Dabo has 2 choices. Either start playing the game off the field the way everyone else is or hang it up and retire.
Now knowing Dabo he will continue his stubbornness and we will continue to decline with each passing year. Some think bc we play in the ACC we have a floor of 8/9 wins and while that’s true right now… it won’t be in 5 years if we continue doing things the way we are now.
If Dabo refuses either of those 2 choices then he will hang around for another couple years but after we have a couple 6/7 win seasons or the decline continues he will be forced into one of those 2 choices but if he goes that route by then it will be to late and we’ll never catch back up under Dabo.
It’s sad to watch it fall it truly is but the worst part about it is that it is all self inflicted. Nobody done this to us except our leadership and that’s mostly Dabo. Just smh… truly truly sad

The NCAA can set a "salary cap" of 20 million bucks, but how can they control outside income?
NFL can't tell Travis Kelce or Patrick Mahomes they are allowed to make from doing ads for State Farm. How can NCAA tell a Michigan car dealer he can't pay Bryce Underood 2 million bucks for doing a coupld of local TV commercials?

Yes. These college athletes are now professionals. They are paid to play by the University and can get side deals from others. The NFL has a better system than college sports in keeping the playing field level.

The only possible salvage of this interesting enough is that the Republicans have taken the senate. Former coach Turbeville has been trying to get better legislation to keep the playing field level but Schumer, a democrat who has been chairman of the senate refuses to bring up the legislation. Now that a Republican will be in charge of the senate along with a majority Tuberville who has had discussions with the head coaches may be able to get his bill brought up and passed. Schumer who is owned by the Unions wanted college athletes to become unionized.

Strip the major teams (or those who wants to leave) out of the college football ranks. No ties to the school. It has become semipro teams anyway. If they want to use the school stadium charge large rental fees payable to the school or State.
For schools who want football teams Change the rules so players have 5 years total to play. Pay the players a stated salary. Require the student to pass so many courses a year. Students can transfer to another school but the receiving school has to give up a scholarship to the losing school. For students who do not graduate the school loses a scholarship for 5 years.

Republicans are all about the free market. The transfer portal and private NIL are as free market as it gets.
There are too many really important national issues that Congress has to take up in January.
An antitrust exemption for the NCAA isn't one of them.

Tommy T couldn't get enough votes to get his draft bill out if committee.
No matter what, it won't put thd private NIL genie back in the bottle.
It also won't affect the SEC and the BIG even if the NCAA gets an ATE if the P2 leave the NCAA and form their own oversight body.
