worst things to happen to Clemson, all at the same time? Not just football related. All this recent “progress/growth” associated with being good in football is ruining the Clemson experience IMO.

Short of a scandal, which is not at all likely, Dabo is never getting fired. He may leave or quit but he is too proud to get fired.

How does his pride prevent Neff from firing him?***

I would think the nepotism on staff is somewhat scandalous.

That is so dumb. Dabo did not let anything happen but the 18-22 year old kids have not played up to the level of unrealistic expectations the team had.

So let me get this straight. Dabo’s making $11 million a year, built an entire brand off “doing it his way,” refuses to use the portal, hand-picks his staff, controls every inch of the program… but somehow it’s the fault of 18- to 22-year-olds? 😂

These aren’t unpaid walk-ons, they’re paid athletes now. NIL, scholarship, resources, facilities are all top tier. When you take the credit for the highs, you take the heat for the lows. That’s leadership.

Stop babying grown men and start holding the head man accountable for the product he built and he let slip.

Go Tigers!

Valley Boy are you serious? You believe that it's an 18 year olds fault for the program falling? You seriously do not think that just possibly maybe this has to do with Dabo hiring over 20 coaches with zero div 1 experience to get these kids ready to play in front of 80 thousand plus people on Saturdays?

Yet there are multiple other coaching staffs doing that exact thing every Saturday. If every other team looked like Clemson you could make that point but that doesn't fit your narrative so you ignored that fact.

I don’t know that the expectations were unrealistic. Based on our returning production and some gaps filled through the portal, I’d say they were fairly attainable.

Either way, it’s on the head coach - not the players. I have no idea how anyone can say this isn’t on Dabo. He gets paid the big bucks and approves all coaching hires, recruitment decisions, and portal acquisitions.

Was anyone here a fan before Dabo? 3-4 starts have been common in our history; winning the ACC championship was a rarity, as was a 10 win season. Dabo brought Clemson into prominence and has done it the right way by improving the culture at Clemson so that players have to act appropriately, make good grades, interview in a proper manner, and work together. We have had one of the most consistently winning programs since his arrival. If Dabo is fired, Clemson will regress to mediocracy.

I was here when Ford was the coach and I will be here after Dabo is no longer the coach. I survived the Hatfield and West and Bowden eras. I will survive this mess Dabo has created. I hope Dabo fixes it and if not, I disagree with you, we will not go back to mediocracy after Dabo is gone. Clemson is a dream job for a head coach and we will get another good one. And that is because Dabo put Clemson back on the map.

tnet-military.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Never in history have we been capable of paying head coach top 3-5 in the country.

Dabo built it and destroyed it because of his pride/ego. Can he get it back????……sure he CAN, but is he willing???…….doesnt seem to be.

— A couple of things:

1. Dabo didn’t have the credentials for the Clemson job when he was hired. Terry Don Phillips took a chance on him and stood by him through some early struggles. If Dabo had been flushed with Bowden, I bet he doesn’t have two national titles as an HC either.

2. The program seems to have invested a lot more in the football program under Dabo than previous regimes. A lot of money has been spent on facilities and coaching salaries for sure. Dabo has been very well compensated for his success.

3. I don’t think Dabo should be fired after this season no matter what, but if next season is mediocre too I think it’s justifiable to make a change if the buyout is reasonable. Clemson would not have a hard time luring a quality coach with what Dabo and his staff are making.

Nothing lasts forever.

Not common at all before Danny Ford became head coach in the late 70’s. Before then, maybe. But you can count on 1 hand how many putrid teams we’ve had like this one in going on 50 years. Maybe even have a finger left over.

Key is HE BUILT IT and delivered 2 natty’s that would have NEVER occurred without HIM!!! Hope that when HE decides to leave that “fans” on this board get to enjoy a return to the late 80’s and 90’s brand of praying for 6 wins on good years. That’s what this group deserves and hope KARMA delivers for you!!

Just an FYI, '87-'89 Clemson was 10-2 with 2 ACC Championships. If that's the late 80s you're referring to, I'll take it.

You think if we have a coach not named Dabo that we will only win 6 games? Thanks to Dabo Clemson is now a dream job and because of that we will attract a top head coach.

That would require asking Clemson people if they'd be willing to give up those two recent national championships. I think we'd all know the answers to that. lol

Dynasties never last forever; Alabama is a rare example. But Saban and Bryant were rare birds. Even then, Bryant had 7 seasons when he experienced 4 or more losses. Saban is the GOAT.

In recent memory, Miami stunk it up for over a decade after dominating in the 80s,. same with Oklahoma. Tenn dropped off the map for a bit. Texas was white hot garbage after decades of success, as with Notre Dame post Holtz.

UGA has been pretty consistent, but has had a stretch of mediocre years. Bobby Bowden lost a lot of good coaches in the 90's and the utter domination they exerted slowly faded. If not for a soft schedule, their record looks different in the late 90's-2000's

Dabo is young and has a lot of career left in him. I imagine he hates losing far more than we do, being he invests so much of his time into the program. His fatal flaw is his optimism; he needs a healthy dose of skepticism moving forward. Hopefully, he learns from this season, in that overconfidence and faith can be an adversary to success.
