In fact, he specifically said, "I just didn’t connect with the coaching staff as a whole [at Clemson] and honestly couldn’t see myself living there for 3-4 years.”

Nick Saban and Dabo are friends. I would expect that Nick filled Dabo in on some things that helped shape the decision.

This is a classic case of hindsight. While he was good in the pros, he was not a as good as Gallman was at the time. There was absolutely no reason for Dabo to take him.
