If the new WBB Coach is Shawn Poppie

it was a really good choice.
UT Chattanooga was 7-23 the year before he came on as the new head coach. In his first year, 2022-23, they went 20-12 and won the So Conf tournament.
Last year, UTC went 28-5, winning the So Conf tournament again.
Prior to UT Chattanooga, he was an assistant on Kenny Brooks staff at VT from 2016 - 2022. We was named the VT associate head coach in 21-22 season.

He or Alaura Sharp would be fantastic choices! Both have done wonders with limited budgets.

I would give the edge to Shawn Poppie

His time spent with Kenny Brooks gives him a big leg up.
Outside hiring Kenny Brooks (which isn't happening), this might be the best option.

The only thing you’d have to watch for over next 24 hours is does Kentucky hire Kenny Brooks? If so, VT eyes turn to Shawn Poppie in my opinion.

His whole family is deeply rooted in Shenandoah Valley, Va.
Kenny went to Waynesboro HS, about 90 min from Blacksburg and his daughter went to my High School, Spotswood, when he was coaching at JMU...his alma mater.
He also has a daughter on the team now at VT, Gabby, who played at Blacksburg HS.
His wife Chrissy went to Turner Ashby, just outside Harrisonburg and also went to JMU. She's currently a teacher in Montgomery County (surrounding area of Blacksburg & Christiansburg).
I think this carries a lot of weight.
I also think VT steps up and increases his contract as he's been great for that program. I think VT could take him from 900k to 1.2, making him the second highest paid coach in the ACC.
Kentucky was paying their coach less (775k), even if they doubled it to 1.5 million, he's tied for the 4th highest paid coach in the SEC. I'm not sure Kentucky is willing to more than double what they are paying right now.

They must have at least gave him 1.5 million per year. I also think he gets more money for his assistants too.
I also wonder if the unknown trajectory of the ACC was a partial reason for leaving?

He came from VMI which has a decent basketball tradition, good mentor and was D1 Rookie coach of the year. He has been around success and had success. I am good with Poppie from what I have read. He is a major family man as well which would be a fit.

In her 10 years at Florida she took the Gators to the post season 8 times. She made the wrong decision taking the Clemson basketball job and trying to fix the mess it is.

Have we ever considered Dawn Staley was at Temple when we needed a coach? Coach Moore at NC State was available? Guy at Louisville I think was somewhere else when we needed a coach. We spent a million $ for Bakich. I hope Neff is as serious about growing a national as when he hired Bakich.

Bakich keeps doing the great job he is doing he is going to be worth more and get raised. I know he has a Natty but Corbin makes 2.5 million at Vandy and Tony Vitello at Tennessee (no Natty) makes 1.5 million.

Vandy has more $$$ than we can imagine. Should get raises for exemplary service. But when you start at 800K and already had 400K signing bonus - those increments have to be measured. Not a spit of profit in baseball.

Sad Staley makes as much as CBB. I think she is $3mil a yr or more. We are not close to paying more for big time WBB when we are still growing MBB.
