Most likely because he wouldn't get the attention/coaching from BV as a HC like he would if he were the DC. Not sure exactly, it looks like he was having doubts before. Maybe BV gave him the speech about him maybe not being the DC? Legit way to look at it as a young player looking to learn from the best. IMHO

he clearly digs a coach that can sport khakis and a sweatshirt.

to be honest, he couldn’t go wrong with either choice. both good looks - depending on the setting.

It doesn’t make much sense to stay committed when you don’t know who you’re coordinator is going to be. He doesn’t know that for OU either. Maybe as someone else said, he’s feeling the direction of Michigan (NIL sleeping giant) and this was a good excuse to reopen. He probably won’t be the only one. Either way, it don’t matter, you don’t count your chickens before they hatch.
Unless you are UofSC, feel free to count the many goose eggs you’ve been gifted by the boys in orange.

He was looking for a reason to decommit and Venables leaving, worked out for him. He was leaning Michigan after the visit. Just so happens, he was at their best win, in decades.

Seems like he was gone regardless.
We’ll see where he lands, but I’m betting it’s not Oklahoma.

belt ambiance that Ann Arbor will provide. Just kidding. Never been to Ann Arbor. I’m sure it’s a great town and great football atmosphere. The real Death Valley is my cup of tea.

Because him decommitting isn’t because of BC leaving, he was in Michigan before BV left.
