Before Clemson:
According to the SportsShop27 interview (below), Clemson DB Michael Hamlin (2005-2008) stopped playing football in middle school and played drums in the band instead. But, his friends were playing football. We Clemson fans are glad he decided to join his friends on the football field!

While at Clemson:
According to Sports-Reference.com, Hamlin registered the following statistics at Clemson:
Michael Hamlin (2005-2008):
- 283 Tackles (181 Solo, 102 Assisted)
- 14 Interceptions Returned for 243 Yards (17.4 Average)
- 1 Interception returned for a 2-point conversion
Of note: Hamlin made at least 2 interceptions each year at Clemson!
In 2008 (Dabo’s interim HC season), Hamlin made 6 interceptions, which he returned for a total of 111 yards! That is an average of 18.5 return yards per interception.

With return yardage like that, it makes you wonder if he might also have been a great wide receiver.

In 2008, Michael Hamlin and Clemson played against Hamlin’s two brothers, Markee and Marquais Hamlin. According to a September 2008 article on ClemsonTigers.com:
“Markee and Marquais are safeties for S.C. State, today’s opponent. As a result, when the game kicks off today, close-knit brothers will become opponents for three hours. This will mark the first time that brothers have played against each other in a Clemson game since 1981, when the Richardson’s did it. Mark Richardson was a defensive end for the Tigers, while his brother Jon played for North Carolina. Both are now working in the front office for the Carolina Panthers.
“It’s going to be different,” said the elder brother. “We’ve always been on the same team.”

Michael got the last laugh that day as Clemson beat SC State 54-0. My guess is that his brothers still hear about it at family gatherings.
After Clemson:
The Dallas Cowboys selected Michael Hamlin with the 166th pick (5th Round) of the 2009 NFL Draft. According to Wikipedia Hamlin broke his wrist in the Cowboys third preseason game, thus missing the team’s first 9 regular season games. He started the season with the Cowboys in 2010 before ending the season with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He also spent some time in 2011 with the Indianapolis Colts and the Washington Redskins.

Also according to Wikipedia, Michael Hamlin went into coaching after his NFL playing days ended, including a brief stint back in God’s Country:
Coaching career
In 2013, Hamlin was hired as a graduate assistant at his alma mater Clemson University, where he worked with the defensive backs.
In 2015, he took a job coaching in the NFL as a special teams quality control coach with the Buffalo Bills. The Bills did not retain Hamlin for the 2016 season.
In 2017, he was hired as a defensive backs coach at Wilson High School.
