Are they the same? Can someone breakdown exactly what they are? Thanks for any insight offered.

"A grey shirt is an incoming college freshman who postpones his enrollment in classes until the second term of his freshman year. This means they don’t take classes until the winter term. The NCAA allows college athletes five years to complete four years of eligibility after initial enrollment.
When a grayshirt puts off his enrollment, he’s extending his eligibility past his senior year for another term. Grayshirting is most commonly used in football. By delaying enrollment until the winter after his senior year of high school, a football player can play the fall season one year after his graduation date."
"Nine out of the 10 staffs we spoke with use the “preferred concept” and to those nine, the clear difference between a preferred walk-on versus someone who simply walks-on is that the preferred means he is guaranteed a spot on the 105 man roster day one of camp, while other walk-ons will have to go through tryouts to see if they can earn a spot on the roster."
preferred walk-ons are in a better place to earn a scholarship but in football it normally does not happen until a player’s junior year. That’s because giving a walk-on a scholarship after his freshman year still uses one of the 25 initial scholarships for that year. A player has to be on the team for two full years before they can get a scholarship and not have it count like an incoming student."

I don't see why anyone is complaining about Turner and Ryan. Seems perfect. Ryan may never even take a scholarship and Turner has great film and won't even count towards this small class. Anyway, thanks for he insight. I appreciate it.

The reason for complaints is that many on here are so good at X-Box they know more than the coaches.

In a video game, no player can truly outgrow or outplay the limitations imposed on them externally by the recruiting services....I mean the programmers. There are no undervalued or overvalued players, for they are only equal to the extrinsically determined values placed on them, thus need no coaches.
If this were real life, I suppose number of stars would actually matter and we would all be qualified to coach at the highest levels. Of course, if that were the case, how deprived we would all be, for there would be no need of this outlet for delusional rantings, where we can anonymously pretend that we know more than real life coaches who work with real life young men.

That said, the other coaches that supposedly know a lot too all passed. I am thrilled to get this kid, because I love his film. That said, it can go both ways when talking about coaches. I think people should just not worry about it either way though. We already have a great class and complaining does nothing for us.
