Some on here say that Hyman's is a tourist trap. Try the whole fried flounder and you will discover it is not. They get their seafood locally.

Avoid Shem Creek too it is a tourist trap and forever crowded.
ACME Seafood on IOP is really good for all 3 meals. Red Drum is fancy but good. My parents love Fleet landing in downtown, I would recommend it if you like the Downtown area.

Tourist trap?
It’s far far from that. Probably 95% locals on any given night.

Shem Creek was always my “Go to”. Once RB’s closed, not so much. I hated Saltwater Cowboy.
Hoping something nice opens in the RB location.

they have great shrimp and scallops. If I had to choose a restaurant for lunch I enjoy Poogan's Porch for a brunch/lunch menu. For supper Magnolias, Peninsula Grill and Husk were good when I ate there.

There are mixed opinions about the Boathouse on IOP (right next the the SI bridge), but I greatly enjoyed it both times I ate there.

I’ve been the boathouse in the past but it’s been awhile. Enjoyed it in the past. I Greatly appreciate everyone’s responses!

It’s fancy and a little pricey but it’s my favorite seafood restaurant.
I would also recommend Bowens Island for a casual fried seafood dinner but that’s a hike from IOP

A place in line, go to Chubby Fish. They don’t take reservations. If you want to drive a little, the Royal Tern on John’s Island is a top 3 place in the Charleston area. If you can cook, the Harris teeter at IOP connector always has great shrimp and local fish (grouper, snapper, mahi, etc). Rappahannock oyster company on east bay is great, too. A fancier place (along with royal tern) is The Ordinary…it’s rock solid. Then for fun, kinda pricey oysters, the darling oyster.
MAN….I spend too much on food! But I do love it….

To me it’s the best. (A little pricey) but at least everything isn’t fried lol. I’ve lived in CHS area (Summerville) for about 8 or 9 years. We try to go about twice a year.

Everything is a tourist trap down there nowadays. Go to Simmons seafood market on IOP, save some money and cook your own.
