Maybe….
Thinking I should take advantage of winter break and down time of marina life in December.
Mrs Fluff has grand ideas of dog sledding and the northern lights and all sorts of things that would rock, if it were not sub zero temps.
We stayed at a ranch in Montana some years ago pre kids and it was the awesome. We got lucky on that pick.
She wants “horses, adventure, science, dinosaurs, etc” out of this.
Winter sports (except snow tubing) aren’t in the cards so ski resorts would be awesome, but a no go for us (her).
We gots a 6 and a 8 yr old. We gots time the week before Chrimmus We gots decent money. We aren’t renovating our house with pallets, but I am wearing Patagucci that I bought on Poshmark.
Any of you taken the family on a big western adventure? I’d love a little lounge real talk on if heading west in winter is even a good idea. My initial research seems like it could be a horrible idea, but also that September—March aren’t that bad. I don’t trust the interwebs except the jounge for that type of knowledge

We are aiming for all 50 states over time. 14 checked off so far. 2 of those are Idaho and Montana. I’d like to check a new one off the list, so pretty much everything else is fair game.
Jackson? Colobrahdo? Park City? Zona?
I’m having a hard time gaining steam on a super generic google search

We drove from Vegas to Denver in October a couple of years ago. We stopped at Zion, Bryce, Capitol Reef, Arches, Aspen, and Denver. All of these places were stunning. They were all pretty chilly, even in October. We hiked the rim at Bryce one morning, and it was 28 degrees.
Utah and Colorado were both nice states. Utah seemed like it was a little more rustic.

Agree. One of the best trips I've ever taken was driving the parks around the Grand Canyon. We skipped the Canyon itself. Too crowded. But add in Monument Valley and you've got a a scenic filled week+

Looks really nice. We didn't make it to Monument Valley, but Bryce was really unique. You can go from mountain desert full of hoodoos to an evergreen forest in a pretty short period of time.

Caught it once in the snow, and once in the summer. Bryce is spectacular anytime ">

If you cut through Page, Arizona on the short loop, you can throw in Antelope Canyon

That's pretty amazing. The picture reminds me a little of a spot at Capitol Reef. I want to explore the west more. Queen always wants to go to Europe, but I keep telling her we need to do more out west. So many places on the list.

Mrs. Fordt saw a similar picture on a magazine cover and told me "I don't know where that is, but I want to go." So, we tracked it down and went, lol. It's on a reservation so you have to make arrangements with the tribe, but there are similar spots all around Utah and Az. And yes, tons of sights to see, here and abroad.

For a northern lights trip. 5 nights in Yellowknife and saw the lights every night. Stayed out on Great Slave Lake. Rough amenities but away from tourists and you’re on your own schedule. Book during the new moon to maximize the dark sky.
Afterwards we did 4 nights at Rimrock in Banff. I honestly prefer Banff in summer/fall. Winter closes a lot due to avalanche risk and the road to Jasper is closed too.
But the lights were 100% worth it and amazing. I’d go back in a second. It was between 0 and -30 while there. You can rent arctic rated gear. T-male if you want more info.
