From my mind about this baseball team

Example: The Braves have a top notch team on paper. Pitching is great. Some stat players out recovering, but overall they are able to beat most teams every day the play.
But they started 0-7.
Now if you’re a casual fan, you’d just go and say the Braves suck and not care.
But anybody should’ve known the Braves have a great team.
Just like with this Clemson team.
I think they may need to just get back home and get some momentum
And I think a lot of people have totally overreacted
This is a much longer and more rigorous type of season than any other sport.
One thing I will say though is if Bakich doesn’t stop with this rotating system on Sunday games.
What the he** was the point of starting that guy on Sunday? The guy whose name I literally forgot already.
What is the point if you put in Bailey in the 2nd or 3rd inning?
Is Bakich trying to get Bailey in at a point of the game where Bailey could actually finish it?
That also wouldn’t be plausible. Because of our how good the bullpen and Mahlstedt is.
Knaak, Titsworth, Bailey.

I appreciate your perspective, but we have to be able to score 5-6 a game to give us a chance and we can't seem to do it. I don't have any answers but a little surprised how bad hitting has been. Hopefully we have a good home series and get some momentum. I'll also say I know nothing, so there's that.

I know a little, and he's right. Not to say that it will play out in Clemson's favor, but the point is correct.

Most often it’s something that is bound to happen
Just like missing shots in basketball.
It’s not my point to sell optimism and hope, it’s just how baseball happens with good teams.
There’s a line where you start complaining yes, but the bad hitting over the last 2 weeks is superfluous to how we will hit later on in a month.
We didn’t do great in the toughest stretch, but we’ve beaten really good teams all year.
Louisville, Georgia, Oklahoma State I think they’re probably good. And some more I’m just not thinking much.

Louisville turned out to be an average team. Ok st is nowhere near what they were projected to be. Uga is a good team.
While I agree with your original assessment that "its baseball " and baseball has its averages. But we have been skating on thin ice all year. We're a weak hitting team.
As for starting bell, he's got good stuff but coach is still trying to get him ramped up. Coach needs to continue to throw him out there.

You have to remember we went the first 2-3 months of the season playing Big South and other low major teams, South Carolina the bottom feeder of the SEC, and the bottom feeders of the ACC. The schedule was totally back loaded and we were not ready. Duke is no pushover and has the same conference record as we do so we have to find some pitching and some hitting or it will not be a good weekend.

Yeah I’ll acknowledge the difference in toughness of competition
But ranked teams have been losing midweek games and other games to way inferior opponents all season.
You could say way worse about the top teams who have showed they can actually consistently lose to way inferior teams.
As opposed to realizing that Clemson has gotten to the static part of their season, and against the toughest competition they’ve played all season.
But, looking at it more closely…We should’ve won the Friday game against FSU. And we beat Georgia.
That one game gets won, we’re thinking differently because of a series win.
Like I mentioned to someone else, we’ve still beaten good teams though
Louisville, Georgia Tech (2 of 3 road), Georgia, Wake Forest.
Duke is a projected 2-seed as well.
Would be good for the resume.

It’s nice to have hope but this team completely collapsed the last several weeks against good competition. We’re just not very good. We should all be used to it by now.

you say that like we still have time but we dont, we have played our way out of top 8 seed now and lost hope of having a super at home. that is crucial to advancing, just look at teams that host supers and the high % that make it to omaha. May 8 is the end of the season, we have just 6 regular season games left. Unless this team wins the ACC tournament which is highly doubtful, we are borderline hosting a regional and on the road for any super.

The thought behind Bailey not starting is because (according to Bakich in an interview with WCCP) BJ Bailey views himself as a reliever. He prefers pitching in relief, he prepares like a reliever, and loves coming into games in those high-leverage situations where he needs to just get one guy out and move on to the next one in order to get out of a jam. The mindset of a reliever and a starter can be very different. Bakich even said that Bailey walks to the mound on the games that he starts from the bullpen... like a reliever would.
So I think the thinking there is to use an "opener" who can get you through the lineup once or twice, then you turn it over to Bailey and let him go 5-6 hopefully. It was a great strategy against Louisville and I honestly think we see them stick with this strategy. IMHO it was a great game plan, but every guy who threw on Sunday got rocked, it wasn't just Talan Bell and BJ Bailey.

Of course that sounds logical
But it hasn’t totally worked
Besides, I didn’t know the players were choosing what roles they get to have
I’m sure Titsworth always though of himself better as a reliever or end game closer, but he’s very good starting

I don't think anyone is defining their own role. I think that's Bakich having his finger on the pulse of his team and knowing that "hey this guy is great in this role, so what if we approach Sundays backwards and go reliever to starter instead of starter to reliever?" We'll see pretty quickly whether they'll stick with it, we've had one good Sunday result and one abysmal one.

The question is who is that guy that gives the half quality start. Bell? He's pitched well but also had struggles. Gonna be a good one in my opinion. Who is that someone right now as Sundays have been an issue all year. 6 of our 13 losses and 2 of our 4 run rules.

We don’t need developing pitchers in starting roles
I said this back after Leguernic started and lost to ND
He can develop in the bullpen
Bailey is the guy
You just have to stick with him and make it known so he gets that comfortability
Analogically similar to a QB competition for starting spot

I don't think anyone disagrees with you. But Bailey has come in, in early extended relief. So if that stays the same, should Allen be the guy? From what I've seen, he's been underutilized and was at one point a midweek starter two years ago. Sunday has also had the lowest run support while giving up the most runs. Go Tigers!

It'll probably be Bell going forward because there's no more midweek games. They've been ramping him up for weekends since he came back.
I am not burying Bell after a poor FSU outing. FSU just mashes the ball, but so does UGA and we saw Bell have a really solid outing against them a week or two earlier. No offense to Kieck, Bennett, Fitzgerald, or anyone else who has seen time in that "opener" role, but Talan Bell is the most talented (healthy) pitcher on this team not named Knaak IMO.

Learning about a team is as easy as finding its patterns and tendencies, along with how they are currently playing at that moment
One pattern is no matter which one of those relievers you start on Sunday, they’re going to give up runs and get us behind early
And the you put in the person you believe most?
Doesn’t work anymore, running out of room for error
I almost feel like Erik has been thinking he has had some room to try some things.
Which may explain some of the dumbest decisions I’ve seen in a very long time.

I dont buy that Bailey views himself as a reliever. Maybe a 30 year old in the majors gets used to it and accepts it. Every pitcher that I have ever known, and I played D1 as a pitcher, either wants to start or close. And the ones that want to close usually start loving it after they are put in the role. Most closers even started out as starters but have a limited pitch selection best suited for the pen.

So maybe Bakich is BSing us, who knows... but that is literally the words from his mouth. BJ Bailey is also a seasoned vet and somewhat of a journeyman. 4 years in college where he has almost exclusively been a reliever.

If I had to guess, Bailey is just saying the right things to his coach who has chosen his role. Embraced it. But deep down wants to be a starter or closer. Maybe closer does fit his mindset, but would bet money he doesn't want to be a middle reliever.

Yeah, that's probably the case. He's definitely been very effective for us, regardless of what we call him. I want to see him pitching every weekend, doesn't matter where or when, so long as it's not Friday nights, setup, or save situations because Knaak, Garris, and Mahlstedt have been that good. But Bailey has had a great year for us.

It’s not like that
We’ve got to see Bailey starting Sunday consistently
If he comes in in the 3rd inning and we’re down 3 runs or more, that’s just unnecessarily hurting our chances
