Obviously just my .02 and there's exceptions to the rule, but I'm a big fan of coordinators being in the box. As a former player and someone who's sat in the box also, and has done scheming with film, the box view is 100% better. You can actually see the whole field. From the sideline you can not. It's like trying to see depth on plays where you're sitting in the end zone at ground level. You just can't. So you're calling plays and you can't see how close that guy was to breaking a run on the far sideline, what angles your safeties and LBs take, etc. I like the energy on the sideline also, but trust me. You just can't see from the sideline the same way you can in the box. I believe games at elite levels are won based on inches angles and soloing out match ups you like, unless you have absolutely overwhelming talent. Since in this day and age with everything we don't, and really no one does, including prefer someone who can see all of that.
