Distributing touches in the run game against Texas

Would be interesting to see a new wrinkle in the run game due to the injury by Mafah and Haynes. I see a lot of folks suggesting new personnel at RB, which is fun to dream about but doesn’t really seem feasible, eg, AR8 at RB. Maybe another strategy would be to distribute the carries across existing personnel groupings. For example,
- more designed QB,
- more jet sweeps to effectively get WRs touches in the run game,
- add a couple of TE runs into the mix (UGA did this with Boyers, we could do it with Sapp/Brinny),
- TE shovel passes.

This doesn’t fix the problem of needing a RB. But it does ease the burden of a young player, or inexperienced player, being thrust into that role (eg, Adams or EZ). Allows you to add a new wrinkle and have the burden fall on experienced guys like AW0 and Brinny. Also, nice change of pace.

Last point, of why this could be interesting, if you have watched Texas play this year it is clear you aren’t going to sustain drives against them and you’re not going to bust many big plays. Throwing some new looks could result in some chunk plays and the risk is relatively low since it is so tough to move the ball on them in any case.

Just my two cents. I’m just bored and ready for game day already! What say you TNet?

Cade puts the ball on the ground too much when he takes contact, we’ve been fortunate not to lose a couple.

Isnt Adams a junior ? Hardly young, should have been prepped.

That’s why is said “or inexperienced player,” seeing as Adam’s just doesn’t have much game experience. It has mainly been touches in blowouts and even that is limited.

Compared to all of our RBs not named Mafah and J.Haynes, Adam Randall has far more touches than all of these RBs combined.

Definitely worry about blocking and protecting Cade if Mafah is out

That’s why I’m thinking Adams is probably the best bet. But then we might need to get creative for some of the carries, eg, get to the edge on jet sweeps.

it is the end of a long season. ANy back that can't / won't protect the qb by now needs to sit. It is not rocket science

Ago running jet sweep with bowers from the slot. I thought it was very creative and teams were not prepared to defend it. Good ocs can come up with creative ways to run the ball and ga was not your typical ground and pound teams of the past but they still found ways to destroy teams

if you could get brinningstool to block somebody maybe the jet sweep

There needs to be at least the appearance of a between the tackles run threat.

That usually gets one or more of our receivers run over by LBs. We could put some schemes in where we hit TE and receivers over the middle that we haven't done much of this season!!!
