Chad Kelly Timeline - for those who appear to have forgotten
Sep 20, 2015, 7:52 AM
|
|
Yes, he looked good playing for Ole Miss last night. Yes, that was a very high profile win. NO, I do not yet think he deserves any of my respect...at least not yet. Let's recap people:
High-School - Chad Kelly was kicked out of not one, but TWO different high schools, due to behavior issues related to the football team.
June 2011 - He was then hand-picked by Chad Morris to run the offense. I’m sure there was lots of “I’ll never do it again…give me another chance” talk regarding his previous encounters.
January 2012 – Chad Kelly…releases a self-titled rap song about how he’s the best…Chad Kelly…not I’m not kidding…Chad Kelly…what an arrogant piece of crap I am…Chad Kelly. At least that’s what I heard the one time I listened to it. It goes with his self-given nickname..."SWAG."
January 2012 – Before even arriving on campus, Chad Kelly tweets to Cole Stoudt that he’s not coming to be a backup and will be taking his spot. “You’re on the bench for a reason, and I’m coming soon. Just letting you know.” Great way to get your soon to be teammates to welcome you with open arms…right? No, not really...the coaches had to get involved. HE'S NOT EVEN ON CAMPUS.
April 2013 – Chad’s seemingly doing okay. He took the redshirt situation in stride…fortunately no threats were made involving semi-automatic weapons (he’ll tuck that one in his pocket for later, you’ll see). Getting some action in the spring game, he tears his ACL on a non-contact (also not necessary) run play.
September 2013 – Chad shows what a freak of nature he can be if he puts his mind to something. Recovers is 5 short months and gets playing time in 5 games this year. April 2014 – After an offseason, Chad’s the man now (that's when things appear to go bad for him). Except there’s this Senior (who admittedly our coaching staff seems to love a little too much at times) and an all-world Freshman, Watson, to compete against. That issue doesn’t make it past the spring game, where Chad Kelly publically questioned the coaches decision in A SPRING GAME and found himself the bench the 2nd half, where he reportedly spent the afternoon snipping at any coach who would come close enough. Wow…just wow.
April 2014 – Chad Kelly, still fuming, is involved in a small fender bender. He tries to get the other party to ignore it so he won’t face any trouble…then threatens her when she refuses and calls the police and leaves the scene. That’s called a HIT & RUN, in case you weren’t paying attention.
April 2014 (same day)- Feeling in such a great mood for talking, he heads right on over to HEAD COACH Dabo Swinney’s office to tell him how stupid he is for not letting him get more PT in the SPRING GAME. When Dabo tells him he’s out of line, Chad attempts to PHYSICALLY GO AFTER DABO. The police are called and he is forcibly removed from campus. That’s twice in as many hours of having the police called…for those playing the home game.
April 2014 – Chad Kelly is dismissed from Clemson University and the Clemson Football Team.
December 2014 – Chad’s been doing okay. Looks like he learned his lesson and is taking his lumps. Leads his Junior College team to the National Title and appears to be headed to Ole Miss, signing with them as planned.
December 2014 – Days, I mean not even a full business week, later Chad Kelly lets it go to his head...you may be seeing a pattern now. He gets in a physical bout with bouncers outside of a night club. Remember the semi-automatic weapon referenced earlier…yeah he didn’t hold back this time. "I'm going to go to my car and get my AK-47 and spray this place,” were his words before once again, trying to flee the scene. When pulled over minutes later by police responding to the issue he had to be “forcibly removed” from the vehicle, then “tried to kick and swing at officers,” “resisted getting into the patrol vehicle,” and “continued to give officers trouble at central booking.”
I'm all for the kid hopefully turning his life around. But the love fest here last night was sickening. The guy has a VERY LONG history of not being able to handle success and letting his bad attitude, his cockiness or both be his undoing. Good game last night "SWAG"...but you're gonna need at least this season, if not your next of handling success with class for me to truly believe you've changed.
UPDATE:
July 2016 - Chad Kelly, as douchey as ever, says the only thing he learned at Clemson was to run off the field. Proceeds to proclaim himself as the best QB in be country and call LSU the real Death Valley.
You may have stayed out of trouble Chad, and good for you if you did so legitimately. But you're still the same little p-r-i-c-k you've always been. Good riddance.

There's another pattern, Region was Stoudts boy. All you saw was videos of region and stoudt before the season. I think CK knew he was better than Stoudt and got tired of being told he was his backup. Doesn't excuse his actions, but we are developing a strong pattern of respecting seniority too much.

to special teams their senior season. Chad Kelly is a spoiled little rich kid who threw hissy fits when things didn't go his way. He threw the hissy fit because Watson was going to beat him out. Kelly can't handle competition, and he cracked.

To sum it up...
Clemson will not allow this type of behavior on his teams, no matter how good you are. Good luck to Chad Kelly and congrats to him and his team on a big win. I hope that he is able to continue to get better every day in football and in life.

Beautifully said. Thumbed it up.
All that said, I am officially the world's biggest Swag Kelly fan...now that he's in the SEC West. What he's going to do to the sanity of coaches (including his own!) in that conference....
You could see the roller-coaster of emotions Dealing With Swag puts Hugh Freeze through. Satisfaction, as Swag comes out slinging lasers all over the lot, and trucking an Alabama DB on his way into the end zone. Good Swag!
Bewilderment, as Swag catches a bad snap on the bounce, and decides to LOB THE BALL UP BLINDLY INTO TRAFFIC. He catches a benevolent bounce off a 'Bama player's helmet, the ball is caught by one of his own receivers (somehow!) and a house call ensues. Pan to the other sideline: Nick Satan is sitting there glowering, smoke coming out of his ears, literally cannot believe what he is seeing. Saban is going to beat the Malaysian house-boy he has chained up in his basement with extra venom tonight. And I thought Forrest Gump played for Alabama. No.
Intense frustration, as Swag makes yet another wrong read or freelances or does something that causes Freeze - briefly - to lose his Benevolent Supporting Coach/Mentor persona for a moment. Kelly trots off the field in hangdog fashion...and Freeze is there to greet him, his face beet-red. "THROW THE $#%%ING BALL!" he screams, in Kelly's face. Swag marches off to the bench and sulks. Freeze simmers in a slow burn. Bad Swag.
And me without my popcorn. Sad. This is comedy gold. Keep in mind, I would have trouble rooting for either of these teams if they were playing ISIS.
And then, finally, relief. Alabama, by now, has come charging back, and Freeze has decided under no conditions will Swag be allowed to lose the game for him. A litany of three-and-outs ensue. Swag finally takes the game on his shoulders, rumbles for a first down, hops up, wobbling but unbroken, after a bone-crushing hit that nonetheless ices the game for Ole Miss.
And guess what: Alabama has just gone down. In their own house. To what is clearly the most scary-random football team in the last 20 years in college football. They make the Auburn team of two years ago look steady in comparison. What they are going to do - to their own fans, and to others in the SEC West - is going to be epic.
SWAAAAAAAAAAAG!
Hollywood writers could not come up with better stuff than this.
Dabo and staff have to be feeling like they dodged the biggest bullet in recent memory. Now Swag is Ole Miss's problem. Now he is the SEC West's problem. And he is going to leave a trail of destruction and collateral damage across the conference that deserves it like no other, ever.
And as you said...just wait what happens when Swag wakes up this morning, and decides he's The Hero.
Yes, Swag. You are The One. You are God's Favorite Child. Believe it. Go forth and wreak havoc.
I can hardly wait.

I like that he's someone else's problem (or jewel...), LOVE that Bamer lost...even to LeSwag, find it titillating to see what kind of havoc & stress he'll belay on all teams & opponents & coaches he comes in contact with. He will make himself a dramatic story, one way or the other!!! (Did anyone see him grinding his teeth & jawing like a madman on the sidelines??? Looked like he was on the meths or the cocaines....just sayin'! Lmao)
As usual - GO TIGERS! WIN CLEMSON!!!!!

The million dollar question is what will Hugh Freeze do if

Swag decides he's in charge? Coach Dabo has already shown the only way to handle such a spoiled brat. To do otherwise would have the coach lose the respect of the rest of the team. There's only room for one person running the entire team.

Not calling anyone a liar, but Clemson people have a way of making up stories. (Like the "real" reason Rick Barnes left was because of an affair and not millions and millions of dollars.)

I was wowed by some of his play, his poise, and the game management. I was watching a fottball game. My wife and I have a love of music. When we go to concerts, I don't not enjoy the music I like bc of what the musicians may be doing when they aren't performing. Last night, I enjoyed a performance.

He had maybe two drives that could be considered decent play by a quarterback. Every other drive he either was handed points on a turnover or got incredibly lucky aka the helmet ball. The kid is a hot headed punk that I experienced first hand as a student and he is a no talent POS with an extremely talented WR core and a team with an amazing defense.

My ONLY point that I brought up last night was how in the heck Stoudt beat out both he and Watson. I love me some Dabo but I'll never get my head around that one.
He seems to have turned a corner at Ole Miss and that's great for him though.

As was brought out last night...Stoudt didn't beat out Chad Kelly. It was the Spring Game...he had all Summer and Fall to take the job. But instead threw a tantrum, and Dabo named Stoudt the starter and kicked him off the team.
I honestly believe, if he wasn't an arrogant prick, he'd have started for us that fall...but he is. And we dodged a bullet.

I seemed to remember Stoudt being named the starter before the spring game. But alas, it's all water under the bridge now. It sure would have been nice to have had him last year but Chad's responsible for not being at Clemson, no one else.

My memory was that it was basically coach speak that everyone is competing hard all during spring practice. However, observers of the team were writing "hey this Watson kid is pretty #### good". Then #4 got hurt, Kelly blew up, and presto Cole is named the starter after spring game.
I've always wondered if Watson hadn't got hurt and showed out at spring game if Coach Swinney would have left the competition open thru Fall camp. That may have allowed him to name Watson the starter for the UGA game.

This is about the closest I have for you. Philpot tweets in there. Multiple sources say he was "escorted" out of the West Zone by police.
http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2014/4/14/5614250/chad-kelly-clemson-quarterback-dismissed
I have also heard it from local radio hosts...but get the feeling it was one of those things Clemson didn't want to make headlines.
I'll say this...I know stories get twisted, and as such...it's possible that didn't happen. But considering his history, and his later incident of threatening to "spray" a nightclub with his AK, I tend to be of the theory that perception is reality.
Take it for what it's worth.
