Cam Cannarella

When it’s all said and done I think this kid will go down in the same breath as kahlil Greene and Seth beer but could he be categorized as the most “clutch” Clemson baseball player ever? I think so and I can’t wait to watch what he and bakich and the boys can do. This season feels like Omaha or bust…. Thoughts?

Going to have to have a monster year for that to happen

I agree while his numbers are great they haven’t touched beers or greens but his ability to make a play or a hit In seemingly every spot we have needed him too has been legendary. Maybe he can cement himself this season.

I think right now he's more in the Richie Shaffer, Max Wagner, Logan Davidson category of guys who had great careers and were drafted high... but we aren't going to see those guys' numbers painted on the outfield wall.

If Cannarella has an incredible year he has a chance, but it seems like the national awards are only given to the guys who hit the most home runs now. Since Cam isn't a pure power hitter he's going to need to fill up the stat sheet everywhere else. He has 18 career homers and 24 career steals, if he doubles those numbers and hits .400+ he will be in the discussion for national player of the year and could go down as an all-time great IMHO.

The talent is there. He needs to stay healthy and have someone competent hitting behind him.
He also carries a gold glove and makes good reads in center.

He's been as solid and consistent of a player all around that we've had since those guys. Even his power has been improving each year, but yeah he def has the clutch gene....if the game is on the line, there's nobody else you'd rather have up at the plate.

Greene hit .470 with 27 home runs and 91 RBIs in his senior season. His on base % was .552. I don't know if we ever see stats like that again with the changes in bats and baseballs through the years.

Cam is a really good player, but that's a ridiculous comparison.

From wiki:

he held school single-season records for total bases, extra-base hits, home runs, RBI, consecutive multi-hit games, and consecutive games with a home run. He still holds career school records in total bases and RBI. He holds the ACC single-season record for batting average and the ACC career records for doubles and hits. Greene also holds the NCAA record for doubles in a career. On June 22, 2002, Greene received a special resolution from the South Carolina General Assembly. He'd started 269 consecutive games. Greene was taken by the San Diego Padres with the thirteenth pick of the 2002 Major League Baseball Draft.

Cam is a very dependable solid player but not a power hitter. He is clutch in running down balls in the outfield and making circus catches. That being said can,t really compare him to Beer or Greene due to different stats.

Between KGs time and now are the bats. KG with todays bats would still be great but not at those 2002 numbers.

Khalil's stats were otherworldly but they've made improvements to the bats and a lot of people think the balls are "hotter" than normal which encourages offense again.

8-10 years ago you were going to lead your conference in HR if you even hit 20. For reference, there were 9 guys in D1 who hit 20+ home runs in 2018 (the year Beer hit 22) and 25 HR lead the entire nation. In 2024 there were 69 guys who hit 20+ HR and the national leader was Charlie Condon from Georgia with 37. Power numbers are back through the roof, just like the early 2000s. Condon hit .433/.556/1.009 with 37 HR and 78 RBI last year and there were 5 different guys who hit 30+ home runs last year.

Seth Beer played in that over correction era where they wanted to kill the bats and keep balls in the ballpark. I would love to see the numbers he'd put up with a 2025 bat and ball while playing in today's game. He (deservedly) won the Hauser Trophy as a freshman with 18 home runs...

I said same breath meaning he’s up there I don’t think he will touch greenes numbers but his pure ability and clutch factor has and will make him a Clemson legend imo.

I put his 2002 season right along any Palmeiro or Pete Incaviglia....albeit Incaviglia hitting 48 homers in one season in INSANE... INSANE

Can Cam become an all time great, YES.... I hope to see continued improvement from him, some maturity but not lose that fire, and a special season for Clemson baseball.

He likes to lean into pitches. It wouldn’t surprise me if they start going up and in to him and his wrist gets clipped. Hamate bones are tough healers
