Bourbon Talk

It seems like a good day for sipping bourbon after work. I haven't decided which bourbons I will be pouring though.

I've bought too many bottles that aren't bad, but just don't stand out, so I'm at a point where I am going to try before I buy a bottle. I tasted some bourbons at a restaurant here in Virginia. I wasn't sitting at the bar, so I have no idea if a given bottle was just opened, only had a few ounces left, had been sitting open for years, etc.

Bourbons tasted for the first time and my first impression:

Booker's (On the sweeter side. I like sweet. I'm a fan.)

Old Ezra 7-year (Decent, but didn't stand out. Wasn't a fan of the first couple of sips, but it grew on me.)

Stagg Jr. (Sweet and bold with a little heat. I'm a big fan.)

High West Campfire (Smoky. Not bad, but not a fan of smoky.)

Bourbon tasted before:

Michter's Sour Mash (Good. Unique flavor. Hard for me to describe. Liked it more this time than the first.)

Went to a bar last night for happy hour which included some pricey bourbons and Irish whiskeys. Has Angels Envy and really liked it.

Blanton’s and Michter’s as of late. For the biggest bang for the buck, still a fan of Elijah Craig.

Winner! Nice spread. I've tried some version of every brand in your photos, except for Rabbit Hole. Rabbit Hole is on my list to taste at the bar. I own some version of most of the brands.

Let us know how hunting goes. I would think it would have to be better where you are than in Virginia, where bourbons commonly found in other states are no where to be found.

Fine assortment! Do you remember getting home, or have you made it yet? Hopefully, you're not still in jail! There is such a thing as "too much of a good thing", but I usually don't remember that until the next day or two.! Go Tigers!!!

I’ve tried a bunch and my three favorite, that still have character with ice are:
Weller Antique 107 (sweet)
Hudson Bright Lights (Balanced)
Four Roses Single Barrel (Spicier)

Do it sooner rather than later Weller Antique 107, every time I take a pull I wonder why it's not my go too.

I'm a fan of Rare Breed. I have a 1.75L Eagle. I'll try George Remus eventually.

I'm putting together a core group of 10-15 bourbons $60 or less for my regular rotation. These must be bourbons that I can get anytime here in Virginia.

I'm considering several, but so far only Uncle Nearest 1856, Old Forester 1920, and Chattanooga 111 are in that rotation. I will most likely be adding Rare Breed, Whistlepig 6-year, and Larceny Barrel Proof to that group. I made an exception for Chattanooga 111 because I can get it anytime through a friend.
