Biggest speed bump in the road to the 23-24 CFP

@Miami then @NC State. Back to back road games in tough environments coming off a bye week. Chances are both those games will be night games as well.
Don’t know about y’all but there’s a different feeling this year not felt since DW4. I think we’re in for a heck of a season.

One similarity in that both (at the time) are slightly built

guys, and the worry is, can they survive the rigors of a whole college football season without getting hurt? As we now know, DW4 didn't, the ACL cost him some time. Hope Cade is more fortunate!

Not trying to challenge so much as I am trying to better understand...why would anyone consider Miami a tough environment? Reason I ask is because I've always understood Miami fans don't attend games very well - kinda like second half USC.

I can see it if in the off-chance Miami is able to come into that game undefeated the bandwagon fans will show up for a night game against a possibly undefeated Clemson team.

Depends on the season and the confidence. USuC will always look at it as their biggest game.

Listened to Mickey Plyler this morning and he didn’t seem very excited about the receivers, and said Cade will be brought along slowly. I think he threw a pick 6 in the scrimmage? (Sound familiar)? I shared your enthusiasm until that segment on his show. He did say he had no worries with the defense.

Let's get past FSU and Syracuse, which I think are our toughest back to back games, before we worry about anyone else.

I injuries and/or QB play will determine whether we reach the playoffs. Anything less than very good to elite QB play and we have no chance, like most teams. Regardless of QB play, if we lose any starting LBs or other quality players it becomes much less likely as well.

Right. Have we ever had a season where one or more of our linebackers didn’t miss games due to injury, targeting calls, etc? Answer is, “No”. We need an unusual season in which the starting LBs are injury free in order to avoid relying on a backup that has never played a snap. Hopefully by late season, some of this urgency lessens as the youngsters will have developed a bit.

Miami is definitely NOT a "tough" environment. Nancy Tate is, however, an extremely hostile place to play.

I see two possible potholes.

1. Offense doesn't gel mainly because WR and/or OL isn't as good as expected. 2. Defense doesn't play much better than last year (in which case Wes' seat is very hot).
I don't expect either to happen. I would never predict a national championship. Heck, I would never predict a 12-0 season. But, if you asked me to pick any single game on Clemson's schedule right now, I'd predict a Clemson win.
And, of course, there is always a 3rd potential pothole.
3. Injuries.

I would counter that with this:
Aug 14, 2023, 12:51 PM
|
|
1. Even if the Offense hasnt "gelled" it will still be better than that disaster led by the worst qb and oc we have had in well over a decade.
2. Defense is healthy and Wes has a year under his belt. Although I expect substantial improvement, I think at bare minimum it will be marginally better. If its somehow worse tho, Wes is gone.
3. This one has to be thrown out because it could apply to literally every single program out there and is virtually unquantifiable.

I think the departure of a particular quarterback will be a plus for the Clemson Tigers. I can’t wait to see how number 2 develops under a new coordinator. IF (big IF) the receivers improve dramatically the Tigers will be bad news. No one has a running back duo like Shipley and Mafah. The strength of the defense is pretty solid and the defensive backs are better than many believe. The kicking game is very solid. I see no big weakness on this team and the coaching is a very big plus.
