Ben Boulware For DC !

Ditto on same mentions. Need a guy with extreme passion and get instant respect from the players. As for not knowing all the procedural intricacies ? Good supporting staff will satisfy that. Defense is all about passion and being in the right place at the right time. Oh yeah, and being able to tackle.

Nothing against Ben, but we need a DC not a player. He’s been on the staff all year and although I don’t know what his responsibilities are, we still can’t tackle.

Far be it from me to think I can help, but other teams seem to be able to be in position to make tackles, we seem to be a step or two out of position. I don’t know if it’s scheme or players, but when BV was here, we were able to make those plays and be in the right position.

Just my thoughts… Go Tigers

What does playing have anything to do with coaching? If I remember Ben, he couldn’t play in pass coverage to save his life.

Not to mention he’s a drunk driver so not exactly great role model for players either

That’s why we have this little thing called defensive back coaches. You know the guys that’s only job is to quite literally play in pass coverage. Crazy how logical thinking works ain’t it.

So DBs never have to tackle a runner or fill gaps. And LBs never have to cover a tight end or RB out of the backfield. Got it. Your knowledge of football is questionable at best.

Carter is well known for his inability to cover. As a LB. Maybe you missed the ACCCG where his blown assignment was an easy, receiver-was-wide-a$$-open atrocity of coverage.

My thoughts also. I really want to like Goodwin, and as a person I know he is terrific, and maybe an outstanding analyst, but as a position coach, I think you really need someone who has played the position or been a defensive player at the college level to relate to the linebackers. Regardless of whether Goodwin stays or goes, I think a dedicated linebacker coach is warranted. Neither Carter or Woodazz, in my opinion, made any progress this year. If anything they went backwards and I think both had the capability of playing at the next level.

Well, I think you guys should start a new thread..."how is Dabo going to get Goodwin to be a better DC", because we should all know by now that Dabo is not prone to change easily, because he ain't going to get rid of Goodwin just yet! It would be nice, however, if he did hire someone that could have the same immediate effect that coach Luke has had.

That's the stuff that's been failing. Being a great RB has not made Spiller a good RB coach, and being a (sort of) great LB won't make Boulware a great LB coach, much less DC.

Boulware has been a "defensive intern" since August. He has zero coaching experience. He's not qualified to be our LB coach, much less our DC. He needs to start at the bottom and work his way up before he should even be considered as a position coach at Clemson.

If we move on from Wes i want somebody with a good track record.
