But I'd imagine a hippy living on the streets of New York's p ecker is cleaner than the average gas pump handle, and I don't see anyone washing their hands after pumping gas.

The dirtiest surface = elevator buttons.
Second place = doorknobs.
Know shid.
One of the cleanest = terlit seats.
Now the terlit seat at a neglected gas station might be a different story.
