All I know is this : I have followed CU basketball for over 55 years of most of it's futile history. I have seen coaches come and go (mostly on their own). I think we are at the best point program wise than we have ever been over the last 5-6 year period. We have had a sweet 16 and an elite 8 over that time and been to 3 NCAA tournaments. Call me accepting of mediocrity if you will but for me give me a coach (LIKE Brownell)
that gets us to the point that we can consistently expect to win 20 games 3 out of every 5 years and make the tournament I would gladly give him a LIFETIME contract ! And I don't care when the 20 wins come or who they come against !! And does it with dignity and class (which most on this board have NONE!)

Some here would like to dream big and drive the program forward. Accepting the way things have been is a cop out. Sorry, I believe that we can be better, like we are in baseball, Football, and soccer. Basketball is one of the big money sports. There is no reason we can't be better unless we don't believe that we can. It can be slow, it can be gradual.

Be better than 27-6? Be better than tied for 2nd in the league, be better than beating Duke and Kentucky, be better than a top 12 national ranking. All while having a staff and group of players who play/coach with class and dignity? Nah, I’ll stick with my guys!

Historically great regular season in a historically terrible conference. Lost to memphis, south carolina, georgia tech, louisville, and mcneese st. Terrible two game slide. THere is both, great regular season and terrible post season. Why can't it be both, how can you only see the positive, made it past first round how many times in 15 years? Its ok for you to disagree with me. I'm not always right, but how about you see the full picture.

The great record is covered by how bad the ACC was.
The games against SMU/Louisville/McNeese St show what would have happened in a typical conference season.
An embarrassingly bad performance on national television on a team that was supposed to be the best team ever...

That's the exact problem with the Brownell supporters and the administration. They are willing to accept mediocrity. Most on here would like to be better. Look at Alabama and Auburn's basketball programs, two true "football" schools. The only people holding Clemson back from obtaining such programs are Brownell and the administrative leadership.

yes you do realize that if we were in the SEC, we would have likely finished below USUCK which won 2 conference games and beat our #####. Th ACC was so historically bad and we still failed to win more than a single game in the ACC tournament. by the way, we didnt lose to a big time power school , we got humiliated by Mcneese state!!!! You watched Will wade expose Brownell for the sorry coach he is and choose to accept it? Clemson wasted millions in basketball facilty upgrades and should have just spent the money on football and baseball until they decide to get a real coach!!!

You and a few other posters on here have common sense and a realistic approach to our bball program. We, for one of the few times in my 37 years on this earth, have landed on the national scene of college basketball. Most dont recognize that. I am serious when i say this, most on here would shout “shame” at brownell had we made it to the final 4 and got beat there. It’s tiring, it really is.
Basketball is tough because you can have a great regular season and 1 bad performance and poof, it’s over. Ask Virginia a few years ago when they were the #1 team in the nation and got beat by a 16 seed in the first round.

We can't compare ourselves to any other acc school. zero titles. We just like OK basketball with the occasional noise in the NCAAT. It'd be nice to win the accT before we split, tho.

And then Virginia won the NC the next season. Virginia has also won the ACCT. Clemson will never do either with Brownell as the HC. I doubt he will ever win two ACCT games in the same tournament.

Agree. I find it hard to believe these people are real. If they are, the only explanation I can imagine is they are a player, parent, coach, or their job depends on Brownell.

You don’t need to pay a guy what Brownell makes to do that. Clemson is a top 20 value and revenue athletic department. That was not true when Brad was hired. We have never tested the waters with a new coach since becoming a top brand in college athletics. Using our past to justify not pursuing greater goals (which also ignores the significant erosion of the conference) is poor justification and limits the university’s potential. In my lifetime Florida was historically irrelevant in both football and basketball. Now they have titles in both and it would probably blow your mind the revenue basketball generates there. Our premium seats for basketball are pedestrian by comparison. Which I think is part of the problem. We have a group of boosters who get to be very close to the program for a relatively small buy-in. Real success would quickly push many of them out.
