one question you Arkansas hick....

Mr. Long, why not let the members of the CFB playoff committee use social media to help them in their determination of the 4 playoff teams? The answer is simple, you and the CFB playoff committee don't want someone to slip up and make "news" by blabbing about something they think, feel or know. The committee wants control of the flow of Information so it has one clear voice, you. For that reason, Coacg Swinney and others want to take that potential problem off their table. It's not like they take their phones away, they are allowed to text and call as much as their hearts desire! Mr. Long, just shut up and manage your overrated athletic programs.

He runs Arky's business and DRad runs our's. Check the W/L record to gauge who's right.

No mention of Dawn Staley, an $EC coach (even though wimminz BB, still the same principle)....just FSU and Clemson....How convenient.

This isn't anything new. My daughter played 4 years of college softball and all 4 years they had a ban on social media. During the fall season and normal spring season. Now that she is a college coach, she has adapted the rule herself. It's called removing the distractions from the players so they can play a drama free game. I wish everyone would leave it well enough alone and let the coaches and players make their own decisions on this. It's like the FFRF that is butting into anything and everything. They tried it with Clemson last year and when that didn't work now they are after other colleges. The players come to the school they decided under their own free will. They know before hand what Dabo's about and they still come to Clemson. It must mean that they feel comfortable enough to let Dabo into their lives and Dabo is not going to make him convert or not play. If he did that he'd have enough complaints against him that he wouldn't be the coach any longer. Move on people there is nothing to see here. Go Tigers.

Why should we care what anyone from Are-Kansas thinks about the decisions that our coach and senior student athletes make! Absolutely incredible that their opinions matter more!

That's not a quote from Jeff Long, by the way.

Just making sure everyone was aware of that. That is a quote from the person who wrote the article. Jeff Long is only quoted in one un-punctuated tweet.

This is the dumbest non-issue I've ever seen.

Let's put aside the fact that the social media ban at Clemson is a result of a vote by team members.
Let's put aside the fact that no one cares what the AD of Arkansas thinks.
Let's put aside the numerous other ways in which the "opportunity to make a mistake" is taken away from college athletes in the interest of focus, team unity, brand-protection, etc.
Let's put aside the idea that removal of social media for a few months in 2015 would probably be MUCH more enlightening than allowing these players to use it the whole time.
The bottom line is that this isn't something we are seeking a national debate on. We ("we" being our coaches or our team or our administration) are managing OUR team. We do not care what everyone else does and we do not care what people think about our efforts to stay clear of distractions and unnecessary drama. Other teams have different rules around curfews, dress for away games, who can interview in the locker room after a game, etc, etc. This is just one of ours.

I know an Arkansas degree requires your students to actually learn on their own and through their own experiences, but here at Clemson we actually learn in the classroom.
