Forgive me for being slow. I just recently learned of one more of the many connections Clemson has with greatness:
Recently, a friend mentioned to me that Albert Einstein’s son, Hans Albert Einstein, worked for several years as a research professor at Clemson. I am sure some of you are much more familiar with this history than I am - which means this information is, quite literally, “German” in this case (pun intended).
“Whatever happened to Hans? He became a civil engineer and moved to Greenville from Switzerland in 1938. While living on Randall Street, he worked with Clemson University and the US Department of Agriculture. Hans was involved in a project with the Soil Conservation Service and the state of South Carolina on the Enoree River.
When Albert Einstein visited his son in Greenville, he occasionally spoke at Furman University. On those days, classes were canceled so students could listen to the Nobel Prize winner.”

Greenville on Randall St. Supposedly, Albert liked to take walks in the neighborhood. Even though he was probably the smartest man in the world, not being familiar with the neighborhood, sometimes he got lost. When that happened, he'd knock on the door of a nearby home and ask for directions. Just imagine, in little old Greenville SC, during that time, hearing a knock at the door and answering to find Albert Einstein there, who was perhaps the most famous person in the world, asking for your help.

Einstein taking his morning walk from North Main St. where his son lived to downtown Greenville for his morning coffee, and then walking back to his son's house. He apparently did this most every day.
Early morning coffee with your friends in retirement. This is every man's dream end game.

G'ville was also the home to a native son who was named one of the most notable persons of the last thousand years. Graduated from G'ville High, Furman and MIT and was a Nobel Prize awarded physicist.

I knew Hans worked with the US Agricultural Dept and Soil Conservation Service but not the association with Clemson. Albert was a trustee with Black Mountain Colkege and woud visit Hans when he had business at the college. His grandson Klaus died from contracting diphtheria. Hans eventually moved to work at the University of California at Berkeley.

Hey, which professor is that in your second pic with bust pf Albert? I am 98% sure I had him for my soil science class in 89 or 90. He was a good professor, or I enjoyed the class, not sure which.

Well, his name wasn't Einstein but I can't remember what it was. I could go digout his book he wrote but that could take hours. Now I will be thinking about it for days.

His house was a few blocks from where I grew up and very near my grammar school (Stone School). I was aware of him living there and found his name in the census record, maybe 1950, can't remember the year.

Yes, I grew up on Randall Street and Croft Street (one block over). Went to Stone School also. Always heard about Einstein living on Randall Street.
