A question that people will disagree on

But I feel like it should be asked. I noticed that the new gymnastics coaches have performed at an impressive rate during their tenure and finishing in top 10 many times. Are we wrong to assume that our basketball teams should be inconsistent?
Not a flame on Brad, but it seems like we hold our basketball to a lesser standard. I know our history and he has performed slightly above where are history would have us.
Start the Lunatic Fringe supporters, but honestly am I wrong to want consistency?

Our basketball team has completely turned the corner over the last few years and looks like the talent level is still increasing. I am expected better teams, because we are going to be very deep and talented.

Do you follow the recruiting? We are recruiting way better. We have also went to the tournament two years in a row with one Elite 8. 27-7 was solid this past season. The team is turning the corner. How great we can do remains to be seen, but the team is on an upward trajectory.

Brad is also paid way more than he should for just average ? He is being paid for more than just getting to tournament . I think this is a tough year ahead, we were the 4th best portal class in the ACC and 24th overall .

I’m with you. Been begging for hoops investment since I’ve loved Clemson (1970’s). If mid major schools can be a powerhouse why can’t we?! Villanova St John’s St Mary’s UNLV and on and on and on. We can’t raise money better than they can?! Dollars in always results in wins. Clemson was dead last in football investment in the ACC from 1999 through 2008. Dabo rebuilds everything and the championships came back. Why not Clemson in every sport?!

Appral to talented prospects with basketball in the pre NIL era, there there is little reason to think you’ll process anything past surface level.

You anti basketball people would have much happier lives if you simply supported our team, which by the way has been very successful over the years.

Not anti basketball ever. I was playing devils advocate. If they expect more from other sports, what is it for basketball

The basketball apologists will not like you raising the question. They have resigned themselves to mediocrity, at least for basketball. Yet if Dabo and the boys don't play in the National Championship game, they foam at the mouth and talk about how he should learn from Brad on how to use the portal. Some say "we have turned the corner in basketball". By what measure? It's like having a kid who makes a lot of D's and F's on his report card and gets applauded for stringing together a couple of mediocre C's along the way. The bar is SO much lower for Clemson Men's basketball than other Clemson teams.

Mediocrity?

You mean like our best postseason in program history in 2023-2024, and our best regular season in program history in 2024-2025?
Is that the mediocrity to which you are referring?

That’s exactly my point Judge. That’s the “C””. We have a mediocre season when you compare to expectations of the football team yet because it’s better than the dismal basketball performance of other years you want a pizza party and a parade! The standards are different, and the results have been different over the last 15 years. Football is on a completely different level than basketball at Clemson.

Mediocrity because of consistency every year and besides last year, early exits in tournaments against teams we should beat. I think we had a tough first round draw this year, but the record-setting first half was even below mediocre. With Brownell’s teams you always wait for the wheel to fall off. The ACC is down and it is the worst it has been in my lifetime

A sweet 16, elite 8 plus a 25 win season is hardly mediocrity given our history. In case you are new to college sports, it is not unusual for schools to be good in one sport and struggle in others despite their best efforts. SEC teams are breaking the mold due to having mountains of cash.

It was just a bad analogy. A top 10 ranking in gymnastics puts you in the 84th percentile which is equivalent to about a top 60 ranking in basketball. We routinely beat that threshold.

The daily I Hate Brad Brownell Post Of The Day from the Lunatic Fringe. The Fringe never fails to disappoint and always come through. Hating on Clemson basketball is a Fringe tradition. I think 20-plus wins in the past three seasons shows consistency. Get off of Brownell's back and support him. He has proven he is one of the best coaches in the country at using the portal. He has also proven he is one of the best coaches in the country period. But the Fringe will never recognize his success at a place that has had very little basketball success because it is all about the oblong ball and not the round ball.
