A few thoughts on NIL and the coming new landscape

1) our NIL philosophy on retaining current players will not change, it will be our top priority. We will always seek to retain and reward players who have proven themselves first and foremost. Players we'll certainly be looking to retain or bring back who are eligible to leave this year

Offense: Cade, Antonio, Wesco, Moore, Leigh, Miller, Parks, Linthicum.

Defense: Woods, Parker, Woodaz, Brown, Terrell, Capehart, Williams, Shepherd, Barnes.

That's alot of NIL $$ IMO.

2) it's been revealed we have been offering recruits NIL $$. The two recent losses, we offered both, but were outbid. The new "pay for play" model will help there, but I do not see us changing from recruiting high character people who are interested in more than just the top dollar. And all recruits will be shown, if they perform, they will be rewarded further through our retention record. We will not cater to guys playing us against other teams in a bidding war unless they are true studs, like Adams or the RB from Virginia. Even then, I think it will depend on how the recruit handles the situation.

3) I do believe we'll finally use the portal to add a few impact players with NIL $$, but never waves of them like some schools. Our retention policies will hopefully never have us that desperate, and we will always look towards player development and retention first.

4) We've been gaming this for a while, setting some parameters until some order came to the system. That should be happening this year. For all who have been clamoring for us to spend in the portal, we had to find out a few things this year, or else it would have been throwing money away. The top thing was Cade, could he be the QB we needed? He's answered that question, and is poised to be one of the top QB in the country next year. Without that top QB, nothing else mattered. Many were saying we should go after a portal QB, but the staff's faith in Cade has proven correct. That's also a future example for future recruits.

5) beat the coots, finish a minimum of 10-2. Still in contention for an at large bid, and an ACC title shot if Cuse pulls the upset, and there's no denying real progress has been made. And when we retain the guys who are our core, add a few select transfers, and see some guys develop, we are poised for a legit run next season.

I see much the same. If we can retain those who could return next year and add a few portal guys for key help and depth we can make a good run to get back in elite status.

For that to happen, Cade HAD to show he was the guy

Under Dabo, we'll never be a wild west type school

I thank God for that. He's a coach who puts his guys first, and still has won at a truly elite level. Ohio St ran off a QB who has put up video game numbers at Cuse for a transfer from K-State who honestly, is not a better QB. As good, possibly, but not better. We're never going to do that.

In the future of recruiting, I think all kids will be looking at money, but there will still be plenty looking at more than just the highest bid. Those are the ones we want, and I believe we'll still be very competitive in signing, once the new rules go into effect

I only skimmed my email and will read it more closely later but it looks like 110 society contributions can count toward your iptay points for the next 6 or 8 months. That’s interesting and may add some contribution incentives.

The problem with focusing your NIL efforts mainly on retention

and neglecting the NIL efforts on recruitment is that eventually your quality of player to retain diminishes.

We have to be picky with recruiting dollars. As of July 1, we'll have 75% of the 22 million we're allotting for the "pay for play" available for football. That's 16.5 million apart from additional NIL $$. Far more money to spread around coming directly from the school, something not available now.

Be patient, the rules had to change. We all know some schools have far more money than us. However, for those kids who want money, which will be all, but are interested in more than just money, which will be plenty, we'll have far more to offer

It's certainly going to take major $$$ to keep Wesco and Moore. Other teams will

thrown at them last year in their recruiting, but still chose to come here. They did so for reasons beyond just $$$. They'll get their money. We have 16.5 million that will come directly from the school beginning July 1, something not available now.

No way of knowing that until rosters actually begin

moving to 105 on July 1. From then on, we'll be able to sign the max 25 every year. Until then, we have to work off the 85 man limit, which meant a small class this year regardless. We don't know who, or how many guys down the depth chart will actually transfer yet, so the scholarship offers were always going to be limited this year. With the guys we'll be bringing back who are eligible to leave, but won't, we just don't have that many spots available at this moment

With the portal you can fix deficiencies fairly quick.

Some of these schools are just turning over rosters. SC looks to be one of those schools with the number of seniors they currently employ.

I honestly think that game will be a war, if we win it.

I could also see them running away with it too. I just have a bad feeling about the game. I hope I am wrong.

Go Tigers!!
