Independence Day, in the United States, is the annual celebration of nationhood held on July 4. It commemorates the passage of the Declaration of Independence by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776. This document announced the separation of the 13 North American colonies from Great Britain.

It is not another holiday as to VETS, it is about us civilians. Our Army was just one man -> George Washington who wore a uniform to all assembly meetings as the "DECLARATION" came to be.

Brave men signed their names to a document that meant they would win the day or be hanged by "our" King.

The first organized Independence Day celebrations were held in Philadelphia and Boston in 1777. In Philadelphia the festivities included fireworks and bell ringing. In honor of the 13 colonies, a fleet of ships fired 13-cannon salutes, and a cannon was fired from each of 13 galleys. In Boston the day was celebrated with fireworks and shells fired over the city’s commons.

Independence Day, known now as the "Fourth of July", is a federal holiday in the United States which commemorates the ratification of the Declaration of Independence establishing the United States of America.

A salute of one gun for each state in the United States, called a "salute to the union", is fired on Independence Day at noon by any capable military base.
Americans spend an estimated $1 billion per year on Fourth of July fireworks.

Samuel Francis Smith, a Baptist minister wrote this:

Our fathers’ God, to Thee,
Author of liberty,
To Thee we sing;
Long may our land be bright
With freedom’s holy light;
Protect us by Thy might,
Great God, our king.

Get out there and "CELEBRATE" - have some fun !!
