Also, as someone else who hates gridlock on the interstates, if you use Waze, there is a setting where you can tell it to avoid “freeways”

I used to drive US 301 from Jax. It is a good 4 lane highway most of the way, but slow down going through the small towns. There are a few very strict speed traps. One town was so bad someone paid to have a full size billboard warning drivers. Good luck!!
GO TIGERS!!!

That town was Ludiwici.
Became so notorious there was a song written about it. "Ludowici on Highway 301." Lester Maddox, governor in the late 60s, cleaned it up. He was the one who put billboards up at the city limits.

Yes, Ludwick! I drove less than the 35mph speed limit. By the way,why was a Georgia governor doing cleaning up a Florida town?
Lester Maddox was quite the character. He used a pick are handle as a prop to show he carried a big stick. He rode a bicycle around the field at the 1969 Peach Bowl. ( I think) I was at my stepbrother's for Christmas and the odd man out to go with him. It was WV vs scar and I lucked out that WV won. I was 18, it was a cold rainy, nasty night, and my stepbrother brought Scotch. I drank it and got sick.
Bad Times!!

You just need to get to the Georgia border. Once you get there it’s 3 lanes all the way to Orlando (SC is only 2 lanes). Take 17 south Gardners Corner, turn left on 21 and then right on 170 and then right on 278. You will be 9 miles from Georgia border and should be good to go.

...and it only took GA 20 years to add a 3rd lane to 112 miles of I-95 across GA. If SC added a 3rd lane and worked at the same pace as GA, it would take 35 years to add a 3rd lane to 199 miles of I-95 across SC. However, I'd like to think we could do better than that.
Another idea to improve the SC I-95 bottle neck would be to charge a toll to Yankees who take I-95 across SC on their way back and forth to FL. Hit 'em hard in the wallet like they do to us when we use their roads.

We did the trip today. Go 17S to Garden Corner. Get on 95 at Exit 33. It took us almost an hour to get from Hardeeville to GA state line, 1.5 hours to get through GA and we started Waze as we approached Jacksonville. There was huge wreck in St. Augustine on 95 so Wayne redirected us. It wasn’t bad once we got out of SC. What a difference 3 lanes makes! Good luck and Go Tigers!

And meanwhile- a big infrastructure bill was passed. Lindsey Graham, Jim Clyburn weren’t dumb and voted yes for roads, bridges etc.. Some of our other legislators were not so bright and voted no! 95 and 26 needed a third lane years ago??

Going down on 95 is usually not terrible and it is not a weekend day. Good luck coming home if you leave Saturday.

Take !7 out of Jacksonville very little traffic. It is a nice road. May take 10 or 15 minutes longer. I hate 95 get off soon as you can. Also will be a good way out after the game.

Instead of getting on 95 @ exit 33, go across the interstate at point south and stay on the frontage road all the way to ridge land. From ridgeland, you can get on the interstate or, continue on 17 down to Hardeeville, then its only a few mile to the GA line. The ride between US 21 @ PS and the state line blows this time of year.

Not sure where you are coming from, but

Assuming it's Clemson.
Hwy 76 to I-85 north, to 385 east, to I-26 then merge heading east, then I-95 south to I-4, then straight on to Orlando. I used to go that route years ago to Tampa...but I don't know about construction and all.
You could also take Hwy 76 to I-85 south, then straight through the ATL, then merge with I-75 south, and take I 75 all the way to Tampa then back up I-4 to Orlando.

He's in Charleston and looking for a way to avoid I-95 as any sane person would. It's bad in SC but can't one up the traffic on 95 around Lumberton. It always sucks there.
