I should keep my mouth shut my friend, but that is something that I've never been able to do, and that is why I have to say that I don't believe anybody is worth 10 or 12 million bucks a year. I mean we have people that risk their lives daily coming to work as public servants to help keep the rest of us safe, and those people don't make even make a Quarter mil a year. Something about the system and what we value the most is way off base. Just my opinion, and I've never had a family member or a close friend working as policeman, but I do believe that if society had to do without a head FB coach, or a policeman, the coach would have to go bc without them, our society would be in serious danger on a daily bases!!!
Head Coaches get paid millions to teach young men and women to play a game, and policeman go after the worst of our society trying to keep people safe from them, and they get paid less than the lowest level college FB coach. Something in the milk ain't clean!!!

Jimmy Sexton is making a lot of people very rich. Jimbo Fisher, Sexton is his agent, got an ungodly $75 million over 10 years just 3 years ago. Nick Saban got a new deal since then, Jimmy Sexton is his agent, about $120 million over 10 years.
Now Dabo, Sexton is not his agent, got $115 million over 10 years.
Poor Jimbo. Yesterday he made some comment about West Virginia being home and you never say never. He could be using that as a ploy to get more money out of aTm. (He used LSU as a ploy to get more money out of FSU for two years in a row.)
At any rate, Jimmy Sexton is making money not only for himself and his clients, but also for coaches all across the nation.

The same way that Bowden got extended months before firing

I'm not saying Dabo shouldn't have been extended. And I get your point. But just because an AD makes a multimillion dollar deal, doesn't mean it's a smart deal. Our AD gave Tommy Bowden a multimillion dollar multi-year extension with a huge, lopsided buyout, a few months before firing him and paying the full buyout.

It says in the article “It was a part of that previous contract that there would be a look-in at some point to keep Swinney's salary within the top-3 nationally.” Several other coaches recently got raises or new jobs that put Dabo outside the top 3. Clemson was not going to let him fall very far down that list before getting him back into the top 3. It needed to be done because it is based on the current market but I just cannot wrap my head around that type of money.

This is great news that we all knew would come after other coaches received their big contracts. I don't see Dabo coaching forever but hopefully this contract will keep him at Clemson until he retires and runs for Congress.

Wondering what Clemson gains by paying Dabo $12.5M per year that they did not have paying him $10M per year? While I love and support Dabo (even when some of you wanted him fired in his 2nd year) I just dont see the upside or this this is sustainable long term.

Massively lopsided buyout seems foolish. No barrier to leave
Sep 8, 2022, 1:01 PM
|
|
Any big football school can easily afford to hire Dabo away at anytime because his buyout for leaving is so small. But Clemson probably can't afford to fire him for 10 years. For example, if Clemson fires Dabo for poor performance in 2025, Clemson has to pay him $60M. But if Dabo chooses to leave for the University of Texas in 2025, UT only has to pay a pittance of $4M. Why not negotiate a bigger exit cost? Would Dabo have refused to sign a $115M contract if his buyout for leaving were, say, 1 or 2 years worth of the $11.5M salary? "Sorry, Graham. I can't accept a bigger buyout because I really need to preserve my ability to jump to another school anytime I like, and to use that flight-risk as negotiating-leverage over Clemson."
Also, the incentives seem a bit silly. They're so small relative to Dabo's salary that they don't really provide any meaningful, behavior-affecting incentive. On the flip-side, if Dabo goes 0-12, he gets the full $11.5M/yr and it's not an allowable cause for Clemson to terminate for poor performance.

Do you really think Dabo needs “behavior-affecting incentives”?? No. That's my point! Why waste money on incentives?
And I for one am not concerned about needing to terminate him for poor performance. Yeah... I'm not too worried about it. But 10 years is a long time. During the dominant runs, I'm sure that lots of FSU fans weren't too worried about firing Bobby Bowden, or Texas fans Mack Brown, or Tenn fans, Philip Fulmer, or VT fans Frank Beamer, etc. Sometimes the unexpected happens. What's the downside of negotiating a performance termination provision?

i'm a tiger.. always have been.. always will be... so, save your down votes or whatever.. but, this is ridiculous. the coaches making this kinda money is the sole reason for the NIL. the same NIL that everyone seems to think is ruining college football. can y'all not put 2 and 2 together?
with that said, i don't blame dabo one bit for any of this cause who wouldn't take that kinda money if offered? and, clemson isn't paying dabo this much money cause they think he's worth it.. they're just afraid someone else will.
it's just hard to justify 10-15 million a year going to someone who, albeit works extremely hard, is getting ungodly rich from winning games.. not saving lives.. not protecting freedom.. not educating our youth.. not feeding/clothing/housing the poor.. not doing anything vital... but, just coaching football.
this world has it's priorities all mixed up.
if anyone can honestly justify someone making more money than anyone would ever need in 10 lifetimes from coaching a sport, i'd love to hear it.

i think you can be for capitalism and have sense at the same time. i mean, would you be ok with football coaches making a billion dollars? cause if it's just "capitalism, love it or leave it", then there's no limits, right?

our historic run is over, recruiting has definitely fallen off, our QB, WR, and RB coaches aren't really very good, Dabo's too stubborn to field our best players, and we run an injury-prone ship.
