SIAP, but you have to appreciate the Baseball Team at Division III Birmingham-Southern College. They are closing their doors at the end of the month. But their Baseball team is forging on, having won their Super Regional, and now will compete in the D3 College World Series for a school that will no longer exist. Keep in mind that Division III has no Athletic Scholarships. All of these kids are either on academic scholarship, or are paying their own way (basically walk-ons).
If anyone is so inclined, they have set up a go-fund-me for rings for the guys, and to help with transportation back home, and to help with the coaching staff who could have moved on to other paying jobs (such is the world of D3 sports).
You sometimes come on here to stir things up and talk some Shyatt. That is a very interesting story. Must be weird to be representing a school that will close about the time the season ends. Would be awesome if they win it all.
When the news broke BSC was closing its doors, the coaches & players could've easily decided to phone it in & ran out the clock. However, they committed to finish out the journey together as best as they can & placed themselves in a position to compete for a national title as the final curtain call.
Remember they were D1 for a little bit in the 2000s, won couple Big South regular season titles & made the 2004 NCAA tourney (Clemson handed them both their losses in Athens regional).
