Good morning everyone how was your weekend?

Friday night, marathon house cleaning to get things ready for the bbq Saturday. This always ends up happening no matter my attempts to get sections done days in advance. I was working on one portion of the house and the next thing I know the sharkgirl has the hall closet that stores lot of various things spready all over the house. Nobody was going to open that door so this was a waste of 2 hours in my estimation. Get in the bed just before midnight.
Saturday, I get out of the bed at 1:15 get the butts rubbed go out to get the fire started and all that leads up to that. Butts on about 2:30, do a little more cleaning, get the armadillo eggs prepped, see that my fancy thermometers are going to give me trouble, see that the fire is going to give me trouble, get the pork loin put on (did that in case the butts ended up taking too long). By 12:30 only one butt was done but luckily nobody was on time. By 1:15 or so the armadillo eggs and loins were ready. The last buy I just let sit in the smoker to take advantage of the last of the heat then tossed it in a cooler to be pulled only in case of emergency. Football game sucked for a while, then it didn't. People liked the food, a successful day.
Sunday, recovered from the bbq.

Those of you who drive from exit 1 Wahalla to where it three lanes around Clemson... Yall ####### suck at driving.
I've never been that close to getting into that many accidents within a 20 mile stretch.
Anyways. Hike to the top of Temassa Knob. Then did the Station Cove Waterfall Trail. Then hit up Lake Hartwell on the way home.
I'm tired boss.

Sattidy went to Oconee state park for a cookout with the fam, most of whom camped there. Got to see my kiddos and there BF's. They rented a track wheelchair like this:
For Ms. Wilbur's mom to get around in. Good for her to get out of assisted living and enjoy the day. Went home and watched feetball beat up on some turkeys.
Sunday - hit Ingles ans Schlotsky's for some grub, watch a 1 goal soccer game and later Yellowstone.
10/10 (19/19 on the RH Covids scale)

Took a trip to Asheville to do a little yard work and water flushing at my son's house.
Spent some time with neighbor in a rehab facility talking football and whatever else I could think of. I am not a good hospital visitor.
Watched some of the Tiger's game, still think we have to focus on quicker ball release by Cade. Him hanging onto that ball will not work with better defenses - and we are going to play a good one in late November.
Now you talking about having a bbq got me realizing Thanksgiving is coming. Need to work on menu for that.

Friday - came home. Ate. Watched TV. Slept.
Saturday - tai chi, a little work, spread some mulch, sat out on the deck reading Don Quixote in the glorious sunshine, watched LFC, turned to Clemson and VT at halftime, promptly saw us get sacked on 4th down, turned it back to LFC, then the second half of the Tigers, dinner of grilled veggies, sirloin, and salmon, some wine, some victory Scotch, more TV, maybe some sexy time in there somewhere, then deep sleep.
Sunday - church, a brisk 5K run in the cool weather, did some mindless chilling once it started raining, cooked shashuka, started watching Disclaimer (so good!), went to bed and enjoyed wonderful sleeping weather.
Near-perfect Fall chill weekend.

Friday, LOUD rock and roll full band jam session. Went to about 1:30 am. We were rusty since we hadn't played as a group in a couple of months, but we had a great time.
Saturday, pretty meh. Ran some errands, hiked the pup, watched Clemson game, had andouille sausage, peppers and onions over grits for supper...one of my favorites. Piddled about the house until I got bored enough to sit down and watch the 4th quarter of the Oklahoma game with a wild finish, flipped over and caught the last few minutes of UVA, flipped around for a bit more looking at scores and then crashed.
Sunday, morning hike with pup around the lake, grocery run, afternoon hike in the deep woods along the river, again piddled about the house taking care of a thousand little 'I've been meaning to do' things. Made frying pan burgers for supper, watched season finale Walking Dead episode I forgot about last week, crashed.
19/19 Covids overall. Anything I can penalize for is fixed with LOUD rock and roll live band jam.

Dining room renovation just about done, just a little paint touchup to go. Have stripped wallpaper, installed wainscoting panels and repainted everything, installed new light and replaced switches and outlets. But worked on it all weekend save a few breaks to watch footballs.
Oh and #### whatever cold thing I have had this past week, I'm finally almost done with it and now Wife-of says she has sore throat. Great.

ended up putting a last minute b-day party together for my grandma (made it to 89 despite having failing kidneys for nearly 3 years now).
Fri - pizza night as normal. Local pizza joint been popping last couple weeks w/ HS football playoffs. Not that I blame em, but all the visiting fams hit our joint before going over to the stadium.
Got home, put girls down, packed up
Sat - trucked it to ATL in the morning. cottamit I hate Atlanta. idk how you people live down there.
mom's pool is heated, so got there and let girls swim their ##### off till they were tired AF and then they fell asleep.
cooked out for g-ma's b-day and had a good time.
Sun - played w/ fam for a bit then left around 11 AM EST. got home around 245 local time w/ a sweet MickeyD's stop in there just north of Chatt.
unpacked, tired AF, cooked a steak, put kids down, slammed wife, PTFO.
did not watch more than an hour of football combined for the whole weekend.
had a stupid costing call at 7 dis mawn. bouta wrap this up and hit the gym for the first time in like 3 weeks, b/c fat

Friday...left work early to go get new tires for my car. Horry sheet they were expensive. Glad it's a company car and I didn't have to pay for it out of my pocket! Took daughter-of to the TL Hanna football game. Hanna won big to win the conference and daughter-of got to hang out with her friends and boy she's "talking to"...who is a nice kid from church that made a point to come over and say hello to me.
Saturday...did a few things around the house in the morning. Went out to lunch with wife and daughter...quick grocery run, then home to watch football. Our game was meh in the 1st half, but ultimately it was a good road win, so I'll take it. Made some awesome sub-sammies for dinner for the fam.
Sunday...wife and daughter went to church and I stayed home to watch the early Giants/Panthers game with son-of. Giants gianted at the end...as usual. My Steelers pulled one out with Mike Williams, but 1pm and 4pm games were pretty boring overall and my fantasy teams is sucking again. Late game was very good though. Watched 1 episode of yellowstone with wife-of.
Pretty tame weekend with gloomy/sleepy weather.

Friday, went to The Southern after work for a beer and found out Mac Leaphart was playing later, so that was an unexpected surprise. Watched Mac (he's awesome), drank beer with my neighbors who showed up. Ended up getting hammers, home and in bed by 12:30.
Slept away my hangover most of Saturday, went and got some Groucho's, watched football all day and finished up Slow Horses. It's a decently bingeable show, if you're looking for that. I'll definitely catch next season.
Sunday helped a buddy work on his boat and then install a ceiling fan in his living room. Later, hung out with my neighbor and decided around 8:30 to go to the Dinghy to see Mel Washington play. Met up with some friends, ate some dinner, drank a few beers, Ubered home by 10:45 to argue with my wife. Went to bed.

I went down to Cobb County for my middle son's 14U soccer tournament on Friday night. Won 7-0
Saturday, back down for 2 games. Won 2-0 and 7-1
Sunday, I went back down for the championship, which they won 2-0. Then I went to Rome to watch my youngest son's last baseball tournament for the year. They won the first and lost the second, but he hit a no-doubter and had an epic bat flip. He's hit 2 now, and thankfully, I have videos of both.
My daughter had ballet rehearsal for the Nutcracker, and my oldest son played his first gig with a couple of friends at a restaurant in Rome.
Great weekend for kid memories and proud Dad.

hooked up on the Parkway in VA and had some wine near Floyd at Villa Appalaccia Winery, saw some music in Floyd: a trio playing Western music in a house turned into Buffalo Mtn Brewery, a good band with a brass section at Dogtown Roadhouse, and 10 mins of bluegrass at Floyd Country Store.
Slept in the van that night down by the river at Crooked Mtn, very nice place
Got up early for some coffee and eats at Red Rooster Coffee. Made our way to B'burg and got a spot near downtown right beside a cop station. Tailgated alongside some Tiger fans and a strange number of #### fans. Made into the stadium and got into our seats for the paratroopers floating into the stadium, very cool.
First half, yeah I don't know. Second half had a couple of amazing plays including Cade's stay on his feet TD throw and the INT by Hampton. Defense played excellent. 15$ beers? Ugh.
Went downtown to celebrate to only find out that Va Tech's pastimes are standing in line for bars and food. Bailed on standing in line for Benny's huge pizza slices, don't know if they are good but they are enormous. Found a hole in the wall gyro place that was crowded but doable, acceptable after game grub with cheap beer. Bailed on standing in line for more beer so got to the van and spent the night with no cops bothering us. We even had RV neighbors spending the night so it must have been ok.
Early tasty bfast at Gillie's. Easy drive home and lots of foosball on Sunday.
10/10, wood do it again

Friday- steak on the grill with steamed cauliflower and rice pilaf 10/10.
Daughter says no where to pool party tonight, so wants to have her friends over and 2 girls stay the night. I agree. 8-10 kids come over and are partying in the pool, so I decide to smoke in the garage to cut them a break. There, next to the golf cart are empty White Claws. C'mon man. I bring daughter inside and call her a assdumb reversed. Are kids today really so stupid they can't hide their booze from their parents? Daughter of claims it belongs to boyfriend of one of the kids and kicks all boys out, party over. Kids fleeing potential wrath of father was kind of funny. Daughter was quite apologetic. Not sure how culpable she is, and not overly intent on asking. Girls are sweet, so I made them food and chatted with them while watching end of football. Cmon Iowa, that was awful
Saturday - I was quite depressed because all of my Tiger friends were out of town and could not come over. Could not go to watch party because of Orlando City Game 3 overlapping. Halftime, and now I'm really down in the dumps. My buddy (Syracuse fan) says let's hang. Comes over for dramatic 2nd H improvement, and miracle finish and win by Orlando City
Now 8p, fairly full of liquor and monster energy, he offers to drive me to see live music. Off to College Park Jazz Fest for Brown Bag Brass Band (always fun), then to tourist side of town for the Wilted Chili's who closed with Little Help From My Friends -> Whipping Post. What a great cure for feeling down!
Sunday - other MSynan went to Disney with her friends, so I made sure kids were handled. Got them Steak and Shake for dinner, which elevated me to hero status. Lots of Red Zone Channel and fantasy football is down to the wire to be decided tonight
19/19 COVIDS unless I am somehow allowed to give more points than 19

Thurs - sign the kid out of school early and head to D.C. Shidty drive but made it to wife's brothers house in historic Arlington by 10 pm. Had a couple drinks and hung out with wife's brother and SIL and crashed.
Fri - head into D.C. and meet wife's other brother, his wife and two kids at the National Museum of Natural History or whatever it is called. Then drop $30 at a street vendor on two soft serve ice creams and a bottle of coke. Make our way to the National Gallery of Art. They currently have an exhibit of the Paris 1874 Impressionist Movement. They have done an incredible job of gathering different works, could spend an entire day just in that exhibition alone. Monet, Manet, Renoire, the list goes on. Check it here: https://www.nga.gov/exhibitions/2024/paris-1874-impressionist-moment.html Picked up a big a>ss book they have put together on it for my mom's birthday celebration this coming weekend. It cost me an arm and a leg, but you only turn 80 once. She is going to love it. Back to Arlington and two of wife's cousins come over for supper, one with her husband and their three kids. Our kid and their oldest are big buddies, those two girls had a great time.
Sat - BIL wakes up our kid and takes her to her cousins soccer game, then they all head to the D.C. zoo, six kids in tow. Wife and I get the afternoon off from childcare, so metro into D.C. and go to Capitol City Brewing Company. Had a few beers, I had a burger, wife had the reuben, was all very good. Do wreckormend. Metro back to Arlington. I will say that the metro there is fantastic. Clean, cheap, efficient. One thing the government actually got right, lol. Head to Alexandria for wife's 50th birthday celebration, the whole reason for our trip. Redheads EVERYWHERE. Wife's family is a little.........different when it comes to these things. Includes skits, a roast of the celebrant, etc. I just sit back and take it all in. Back to Arlington, kid's cousin buddy comes over for a sleep over. Attempt to stay up and hang out, but it's pretty late so crash.
Sun - up later than desired. Got out of Arlington at 11:30. I-95 S as usual is a sh>itshow, as mentioned in another post. Wreck at mile marker 121 slows us down. Get through it and see that there is another wreck at mile marker 96, so hop off interstate and take Hwy 1 to just north of Richmond. Finally making our way down the road, take the exit at St. Pauls NC.
What a hellhole. First place had the bathrooms shut down, one place didn't have any of the stuff we stopped for, another place was cash only. Finally get gassed up and get what we stopped for but it took forever. Note to self and note for all of you:
DO NOT EVER STOP IN ST. PAULS, NORTH CAROLINA.
Finally get home at 9:00. Eight hours up there, took nine and a half to get back. Attempt to wind down by drinking a beer and watching the interception fest, but fall asleep sitting up in bed. Slept in this morning and came in late, and here we are.
Overall, really great weekend in D.C. albeit a little short. Was not able to take advantage of all the sites we had hoped but knew going in that we wouldn't be able to due to the duration of the trip. Already kinda sorta planning a return trip this summer for a whole week, hopefully over July 4th so we can see the fireworks and daughter can spend more time with her cousin, but there is a 90+% chance we will be flying this time. Think I'm done making that drive (that I've done all two times in my life). Yada, yada, yada I'm really tired today

and it beats the heck out of driving there. Non-holiday season price is normally $175-$250/person. Fly into Reagan National and there is a metrorail station there and you can take the yellow line right into the city. There are some good hotels in walking distance to L'Enfant station and can also walk to the Mall from there. Uber/Metro everywhere else...and no driving on 95.

Next time we go, will probably stay at SILs in Silver Spring, MD for a couple nights, BILs again in Arlington for a couple nights, and hopefully in D.C. proper for a few nights. That is what we are planning anyway, assuming they will all be there and willing to host. Can get everywhere on the metro.
