Took the Amtrak across that state and there was nothing out there for 2 days. Nothing but huge hills ..desert...skulls of cows ...and the biggest rabbits I've ever seen called jack-rabbits.

Done it. Twice. Both times on I-10. Made some really good time going West to East across eastern Arizona, New Mexico and West Texas from about 12:00 AM to 6:00 AM in a twin-turbo Audi. ;)

Driving East is disheartening as you see the mile marker on I-20 reads just under 1000 and you realize that’s just to El Paso to pick up the I-10. Coming West when I transferred duty stations, I drove straight through from 29 Palms to my grandmother’s in Longview, Texas. 22 hrs. Then again I was 22 at the time. Butterfly migration through California (stopped to clean windshield 3 times, and it rained all the way through Arizona and NM.

Visited someone in Alaska once. Spent less time traversing through Canada than Seward’s Folly.

Gulf Coast over the years to visit family, and I usually shout a "Yahoo," crossing the state line from Louisiana near Beaumont.

That's because I know I can hammer down on the throttle, go into warp speed and run on I-10 into Houston for my first stop. From there I take (what I've always called) the 59 South, again wide open until I take the exit for the Palacios area, the road there being two lanes with both shoulders as wide as driving lanes, flat as a pancake, and a speed limit of 70. Yet, not once have I ever seen a cop, so I warp it back up.

Have also driven to San Antonio and Laredo, and it's the same. Long drives, but plenty of flat roads, high speed limits and no cops.

When visiting, my kin and I joke about our Grandmother, who would get in her car in Palacios to drive to my Aunt's home 12 miles away, running that flat road at nearly 100 mph, holding the steering wheel with one hand, pointing out neighbor's homes, while turning to chat...at nearly 80 years old. Scary as he1l now to think about, but tons of fun as kids!

True but airports are a mess today. So many canceled flights. Booked the trip two days ago and intentionally did not fly.

We lived in Weston about 20 minutes from the stadium for about 10 years and the drive back to Johns Island took forever. The kids were little then and that made it even worse.

I’ll be driving down Wednesday from Easley.
