Trending Upward or Trending Downward?

The difference between 2011-2013 and 2021-2023 is that we were trending upwards at the start of the last decade and now it appears we're trending downwards. I appreciate all that Dabo has done for Clemson, and I still support him to make the decisions he thinks need to be made at this point. I'm concerned that he spent the last two years, which were very good years, saying that he knew what needed to be done to fix/correct the things that were wrong. Now, at the beginning of 2023, it doesn't look like much has been addressed yet. People say the offensive line looks good, but so far we've played Duke and Charleston Southern. I by no means believe we should win national championships and/or conference championships every year, but I am concerned when I see things trending downward.
Yet, even then, I would be willing to be patient. The problem we face if we see a few 8-4 or 9-3 (or worse) seasons in a row is that we pay Dabo too much money per year to give him a very long leash. He has done great things for our beloved Clemson and for the lives of the young men who play for him. I wish we could keep him around for 40+ years knowing we're going to sometimes go 6-6, 7-5, 8-4, etc. I'm concerned that I see a downward trend that is irreconcilable when considering how much he is paid. I'd be happy to keep him around knowing we can't win every game and some years we're going to be bad. College Football is cyclical. I wish his contract was performance based, so we could keep him around if we're faced with a few bad/average years in a row. He negotiated contracts that demand he regularly win titles and compete at the highest level MOST years. Due to his compensation, he has put himself in the situation that makes him an open target for criticism if the fans see a downward trend in performance. I wish this weren't the reality.
Anyway... just my .02.

I don't think the administration would ever fire Dabo

but even if they wanted to, his contract is extremely one-sided. The buyout should Clemson fire Dabo is cost prohibitive, to the tune of about $60 million dollars.

Let's not forget next year the CFP is 12 teams. Like it or not. Clemson will be 1 of maybe 3 teams that get in every year.
No need to clean house right now. If you are really really that unhappy with 10 wins, get over it The game is very competitive right now. Just enjoy the ride

Staying on top is not easy or all teams would be #1 every year. We had our moments and they were wonderful. While I expect Clemson be be in the top 5 every year, I know we will not be. Just can't happen. So be happy with where we are today. CU will wind up a top 10 team. Go Tigers.

Lets have this conversation at the end of the year. If we do not turn it over like we have the last couple of games, we will win the rest of our games or be in the bog ones to the end!

Biggest difference the past 2 seasons has been the QB. DJ was a flop despite the numbers he is putting up against high school teams this year.
Would Deshaun or Trevor have made either '21 or '22 Clemson better? Absolutely. Maybe not able to win the playoff, but definitely able to get us there. Would this year's team be better if Cade was further along in his development? Absolutely.
We did Cade no favors sitting him on the bench most of last season. Some of his learning curve is going on right now. Joe Burrow was average at best for most of his college career before the light went on. Cade has the skills and I think he will be a completely different QB by the end of the season.
Aside from QB, we need playmakers with speed. Need a Jacoby Ford or an Artavis Scott to scare defenses. Need a Mike Williams to go up and fight for the ball. Bryant Wesco and Terrance Moore could be those next level guys at receiver we have missed the last few years. I think we already have the guys on the team that can fill the other receiver positions. We need the premier guys back in the receiver room.
And need to upgrade the running back room. Love the heart of the guys we have currently, but we are missing the top end breakaway speed like Wayne and Travis had. David Eziomume could be the next great RB.
Point is, we are not as far away from fielding an elite team as some will think or insist on. I have already seen some freshman on the defensive side of the ball that are going to be future difference makers.

Do you have any idea how good Dabo could make Clemson IF he chose to go the portal route and had the money A&M, BAMA, UGA or especially Ohio State and ND to spend on NIL. Think about it

I'd guess downward but that's because our last 8 years or so are among the best runs in college football history. Can't really expect to maintain at that level especially with all of the things now going on that put Clemson at a competitive disadvantage.
