We really need to secure another top ranked QB. You have to figure that a lot of the offensive players want to play for, not only a winner, but an offense where they can exhibit their talent.
Saban retired. UGA has had some success. Oh st has faded a bit. Playing field seems to have leveled a bit. Nil seems to have tipped kids into going places where they might not have considered before. Obviously upset that we're not pulling in the #1 class every year, but the waters sure seem a whole lot muddier than before.

Further, with the size and passion of that alumni base, their NIL $$$ is going to be tough to contend with for years to come.

Here is the frustrating thing for many of us fans. Clemson went 0-2 on recruiting targets today both of those targets raved about how great their Clemson visit was & how nowhere was quiet like Clemson & their culture. Yet, when it comes time to making their decision it seems as if other factors are superseding all that. All we can do is wonder where we are coming up short. I admit I beyond frustrated.

The truth is culture, facilities play a smaller role. Still important and we should always make them a priority....but better decide if you want to play the game or be satisfied with ± four loss seasons.

You cant refuse the play the portal game and then have contingencies abt how HS are being paid. Look, I agree with the ideal......but it wont work in todays environment. There isn't enough elite difference makers out there, who don't care abt the $$$, that are going to make us NC caliber on a consistent basis.

Those things are important. In 2016, they made all the difference. However, as crazy as it seems, that was almost 10 years ago. Now that players can be paid, indirectly and directly, they simply will not be as important going forward. I think it is as simple as that.

…stakes poker game with an EXORBITANT ante.

If you don’t have the money for the ANTE, you cannot play. You MUST find a lower stakes game.

At present, Clemson is going from table to table trying to get into a game, but is being turned away because they can’t pay the ante.

NOTHING will change here. College football is an unregulated professional league. That “thing” they used to call a student-athlete is GONE.

Clemson is a small football school that exceeded expectations in winning 3 national championships through coaching and recruiting football student-athletes on a much more level playing field than has now been established.

We now see the beginning of the end for Clemson football to be in that Top 10 or Elite 5. It is hard for me to say that, but it just seems as clear as day to me that if Clemson chooses to remain as a Division IA program, they will become that team that is scheduled as a “sure-win”, just as Clemson schedules teams like SC State, Presbyterian, etc.

I know that Clemson has to try to get that seat at the table for at least another 5 years, but after that, Clemson will most likely need to find its place in the FCS. And, I’m personally, quite fine with that destiny.

We have plenty of money, we just don’t have a coach who is willing to make NIL a centerpiece of his sales pitch.

While I get Dabo’s frustration with what has become of college athletics, the reality is that these are the new, legal rules. Players can get paid for their endorsements - and they WANT to get paid. There is nothing wrong with that. I don’t blame them, and neither should you. This notion that these players are the problem and that they are greedy people with the wrong priorities has to stop.

Most people would consider their salary the most important factor in their employment. Sure, company culture matters. Believing in the company’s mission matters. A nice office environment matters. But at the end of the day, those things don’t trump the money, especially when someone has multiple job offers from companies who offer all of those other things too.

Dabo needs to wake up, and start looking at all of this differently.

While there is plenty to be concerned about, I wouldn’t be concerned about what he said. These kids are all coached on how to publicly behave. They are taught to speak words praise about any school they visit. It’s just good PR. And that way, they keep all of their options open. Nothing to be gained by them speaking their real mind. You have to take what these kids say with a grain of salt

Clark may be correct that he wasn't elite top drawer like Sanders but to me, the perception that we can't even pull in high level talent isn't a good perception to have. We've lost on every level of offense on our 3rd or 4th choices.

And sadly tbh, we have lost on defense players too, corners and safeties. That said, we have stud coaches at that level who seem to develop non highly rated players to elite status.

I'm concerned we're having a hard time reeling in a mediocre 3* linebacker. Not saying the kid can't be great, but we're not really competing anymore against osu, bama, or uga. We're competing against fsu, lsu, wisky, ole miss and Oklahoma... kinda the second teir teams and struggle.

One can spin it with citing different services and current class rank but bottom line is recruiting has fallen off the last few years.

Recruiting definitely seems to be a tier behind what it was.

But that’s not because we are in the ACC or because of NIL. It’s because we are recovering from some really poor assistant coach hires over the last 5 or so years - coaches who had no business being on our staff given their limited experience coaching and recruiting.

That played a huge role in our performance on the field as well.

Now we are left with a lack of recent high level success, and a weird mix of coaches who are either subpar or who seem to be great but haven’t proven it yet at Clemson.

Thankfully, we still have a fairly recent history of elite success, as well as NFL draft picks, but the shine has worn off of the slide in our football building as well as Dabo’s catchy phrases.

As I said in another post, it’s time for an update and a refresh. Our program has gotten stale. We know this because the market has spoken. The new marketing pitch needs to be led by Dabo, with a renewed enthusiasm that includes a very real embracing of NIL and the portal.

At the end of the day, Clemson will need to leverage NIL and fill gaps with the transfer portal. It's not like I dobt agree with Dabo's philosophy, it's admirable, but we don't need to go all in on NIL or transfers to get back to the top, we just need to get a couple of portal guys, and maybe drop some $ on a top tier WR and QB and we are there. Maybe pay a couple big guys up front.

Either way, we still have a solid class coming in, and it's not always about what you missed out on but more about who you got. I hope some of these other wide outs come our way, but we absolutely need to get an elite line.

Parents following/pushing. Kids making ridiculous amounts of money and haven't proven a thing yet. This reminds me of the NFL draft before they implemented a rookie salary structure, you'd have draft picks being paid more than same position veterans who hadn't played a single snap yet.

I've got less heartburn over a portal player getting paid than I do a kid coming out of high school. At least you've seen what the portal player has accomplished at the collegiate level, these high school kids are unknown and may be a bust, or could be the next Heisman winner, who knows.

I just know I hate what college football has turned into.
