I have torn up a lot of stuff over years. Rotator cuff, labrum, meniscus, both ACL. I just had thumb joint reconstruction with tendon and ligament repair. That crap hurts.

Since you use your thumb for everything, I'm sure it really does hurt! Praying for pain relief and a speedy recovery for you.

When I was younger, I was a meatcutter. I had arthritis in my thumb. My surgery went well . I was in the chair in my room for almost 4 months. Hurt like heck. Do not get that surgery .

Takes a long time to heal. Move it often and aggressively once rehab starts.
Good luck!

I had four surgeries on the same thumb at the same time.

Five if you count removal of a small bone in the hand. Basal thumb joint reconstruction was the biggie, followed by trigger thumb, carpal tunnel, removal of a ganglian cyst, and removal of a bone in the top of the hand.
After going through rehab therapy, I regained use of the thumb in a few weeks time. But, it was nearly a year before all the residual swelling in the hand, and residual pain from all the surgical "insult" went away. Hope yours goes quicker.

Thanks. I also had the bone at the basal joint removed. It's a newer type joint replacement. They don't use an actual joint, but two titanium anchors through which "surgical grade 200 lb fishing braid" is wrapped through anchors to make a joint. Surgeon has been doing the surgery as experimental for 6 years, but finally doing it as non experimental. Said he has never had one break or fail. But, he is one of the UGA team surgeons, so I better watch out. (Lol)

Will be praying for you. Don’t know how you injured you thumb but and hand surgery does suck.
I was bitten by a dog on my 4th I spent 5 days in the hospital getting IV antibiotics and I had to have major hand surgery. It is still painful and even though I am doing physical we everyday 4 times a day I wake with my fingers locked up. If you are every bitten by a dog start on antibiotics ASAP.
I learned from my Vet to start as soon as they’re a puppy brushing their teeth every 1 or 2 days. Get your tooth paste from your Vet or from Chewy.Com. Every 2 or 3 years take them to you Vet and get a deep clean. They put them out so they can really clean their teeth well. And put something like fluoride on their teeth.
I feel for you and hope you recover soon. I wish you the best.

You sound like me. I’ve had a micro discectomy at L5, S1; followed by a spinal fusion in the same place. The moment I awoke from having my spinal vertebrae placed in a titanium cage with multiple rods and screws; they rolled me down for a CT scan. I’m talking fresh spinal surgery thrown o to hard plastic table. They couldn’t give me morphine until after the scan. I cried like a hungry baby without a pacifier. It was cruel, inhumane, and by far the worst pain I’ve ever felt in my life. I was in the hospital for 12 days. I’ve also had extensive shoulder rebuild. That was the second most painful thing I have ever experienced. They pinned my right arm to my chest for six months! I’ve also had carpal tunnel, cubital tunnel, medial meniscus repair, and cholecystectomy. All painful. None compared to my spinal fusion.
I pray for a speedy recovery. Any time they have to scrape bone, it’s unbelievably painful. I pray for peace, and no pain. In Jesus name, amen.

I think I need some of those you’ve already had. Hands, back, shoulder. Too many hours lifting too much weight in the dungeon. Maybe I’ll wait.

I hurt the base of my thumb about where it joins the wrist several years ago while hauling sand in a wheel barrow. It has started hurting more and more in the last few months, even when holding a toothbrush and brushing my teeth. Other things, like my golf swing, are no problem at all. I told my internist about it this morning and he said it sounded like a typical place for arthritis. I think it is from the injury, but guess arthritis could be setting in. Not sure of surgery will help that!

Kind of how mine started. Arthritis from according to Dr, "some small injury you probably never even knew you had". I put up with it until it dislocated several times and messed other stuff up.

I had that surgery a few years ago and it is brutal for a while. My surgeon told me: "You are going to hate me next week." He was right! Those first few weeks were rough. It took me almost 2 years for full recovery. Now, I cannot tell the surgery was ever done, except for the tiny scar. Hand is strong, grip is very good. Totally pleased with the outcome. I hope you have the same results!

My surgeon told me same thing about pain. Weird thing is that I have not had much. Took Oxy for 2 days, Motrin for a couple, now not taking anything. I was expecting brutal.
