His first two years at Clemson he was fast as #### Then in year 3 he wasn’t nearly as fast and even now you can see he doesn’t have the wheels he once had

Looked like he covered the ball so it wouldn’t get stripped. Slowed him down

He saw the players outrunning him on the screen, so he wrapped up to protect the ball.

I’d say he also slowed down a little when he went to put both hands on the ball to be sure he didn’t fumble it. At the NFL level something that small will get you run down. Great carry.

Small doesn't matter. He just isn't the fast. Maybe the fastest guy in the NFL is his size or smaller. How big is Tyreek Hill?

Small as in the slight difference in speed he lost by covering it with both arms.
Not small as in his stature

NFL is the best of the best. There's only a very select few that can be the top, there. Be glad he got the long run and then the td. He has something that no one can take away from him

This! Shipley was caught from behind more times than he wasn't. It wasn't what he was recruited for anyway. He was a hard nose slasher that could get yards and occasionally he would pop a plus 20 yarder.

He still gas speed but now he's going up against NFL speed. Only a handful of NFL running backs can pull away from those NFL DB'S

Spillers use to break free in the NFL and get caught after 15 yards. Those were 50/60 yard touchdowns runs in college.
NFL speed >>> SEC speed even … lol

Wagging his tongue created too much drag.
If he had his mouthpiece in he may have not been caught.
At least if I were his coach that's what I would tell him.

I think he ran a 4.39, based on that he's as fast Barkley in controlled conditions, but maybe not game speed? And after having Etienne rarely getting caught we were spoiled. We were fortunate to have Shipley, class act.

Ships first 10 yards were among the fastest of any Clemson RB ever but he never possessed the top end speed of some of the other greats. We routinely saw him get tracked down from behind throughout his college career.

I could point out that probably every defender in the NFL was likely that fast guy on his team at that postion. The NFL is way faster in college.
The big takeaway for me was that the Eagles must have drilled ball protection into Shipley's head. That is what probably kept him from scoring on the long run. It was like , "Oh crap, protect the ball...I can't blow this chance." It took him out of stride, but was the right thing to do.

I never really saw elite speed from Shipley

He was a more of a James Davis than a CJ Spiller at Clemson. He seemed to have track-level speed off the field, but it didn't translate to the field. Honestly, he didn't really need it. His gritty style of running won us a lot of games.

Dear Ship,
Please don't read TNET forums because you'd have to hire a team of sports psychologists to get half of your confidence back.
Sincerely,
Concerned

NFL DBs are the fastest guys in the league. Also, carrying/protecting a football is more difficult than just running someone down from behind.
It was a 59 yard run that ended inside the 10-yard line in the NFC Championship game. I hope if was not the OP's original intent to be critical of Shipley's run.
