Tigernet's thoughts on if he takes over in 2026 after Cade goes? He hasn't looked supper impressive in spring game or limited appearances, but the sample size is so small. He will have three full years of development by then. Strong arm, runs good etc. I worry about his processing though. Last his offer sheet was crazy. Ohio State, Penn State, GA, LSU, ND, TENN, Aub etc.

I think our receivers match with the rest of Ohio States team but Jerimiah Smith is something else entirely. If he were draft eligible he’d be a top 5 pick. Reminds me a lot of Sammy but bigger.

How can you tell he is so bad when he has hardly played? When he has played it's been in garbage time with the 2s and 3s. He gets limited time to practice with the 1s. So your thought process is to just go get a QB every year from the portal like FSU? There is also some real QB talent coming in next year as well. I think I will wait and see what he does when it's his time before I condemn him to suck. Took Cade a whole year as a starter before things slowed down for him. My point is we just don't know enough about CV to regulate him to being crap. Not to mention most of us are not coaches or have coached QBs to know anything about him and what's good or bad.

in that we shouldn't put all of our eggs in one basket.
It's great to have a QB you believe in, but you really should make sure to have a very capable backup who can not only step in if needed but also be groomed to be the eventual starter.
I don't think we have done a very good job of that lately.

IMO, you will only have a good backup QB, if A. you recruited a phenom. B. You get a guy out of the portal who is willing to compete for the job. Example Air Noland. Any other QB that is good is in the portal and moving for playing time. It is why it is so hard for teams to have the depth they need. Every decent backup is in the portal. Clemson uses enough players on defense to keep us two deep for the most part. Our DE's did not develop as intended, and we were left short. Our linebackers are thin also. We helped at DE and at linebacker in the portal. I think if our OL keeps improving, and our DL plays to it's potential, we will be very good in 2025.
That being said, the games I saw Vizzina in this year, he played much better. I have faith they will bring him around.

Guys don't typically want to wait more than a year to play. I get it.
However, I do think it is possible to get a 4-star guy who might be more of a developmental guy who understands that he can't play right away, and is comfortable being a backup for a while to learn. I think those guys are the ones we want for #2 guy, rather than having to have a walk-on who has a much lower ceiling.

Just look in the transfer port-o-let for the last few days...ND had 3 (2 WR) and "the" OSU also had 3 (including their backup QR)...stockpiling 3*, let alone 4 and 5* players is now impossible!

You do realize you just very accurately described our #2 QB situation with Vizzina, right? And what we had with Cade his first 2 years as a #2 behind DJ? Except both of those guys were 5 stars. When was the last time our #2 QB was a “walk-on who has a much lower ceiling”??
Just don’t understand why you make up c r a p that doesn’t exist to try to create a fake criticism of the football program.

Judge Keller,
Come on, you have no idea what Vizzina is capable of. I bet you were one of those who wanted the kid from Daniel to be the starter.. lol. You have no idea what that kid is capable of unless you're at practice every day. Which I doubt. So let the coaches do what they do.

Which is why I said this in another post:
"I have concerns that he will be the elite QB we need. But I know nothing about how he has done in practice, and agree that his performance in actual games has been limited."
I am certainly optimistic that he has the necessary raw talent and has also received great coaching, so that he will be ready to be the guy when called upon.

Judge, imo Cade took longer to develop into elite than we anticipated. After the uga game, we had to rep him late into games. Some due to our D being porous, but imo (info from x players not Clemson) Cade was still having to gel with our young receivers... hence we threw more than needed + Cade still needed confidence building in his reads.
This caused two problems, one we had no time for Vizz to get into action with the ones, both live and practice. Two, he ate garbage time that should have been trents.
So, I think it's a more complex issue than just the surface. Throw in the fact that we changed coordinators as well. So, to your point, I hope we have learned. Dabo's righted the ship. This year with Boyd as QB's coach, he'll get to spend q time with Vizz. Plus our D should afford us to put Vizz in early and often with the ones... Cade shouldn't have to require any learning curve now.
If this happens like I'm hoping, we'll know during the season if Vizz can do it in 26 or we'll need a one year portal qb. Good points judge. Good discussion, for the most part, and good original post.

Our backup QBs for the last 4 years have been Vizzina and Cade. Both were 5 star recruits. How is that not exactly what you said you want? (“ but you really should make sure to have a very capable backup who can not only step in if needed but also be groomed to be the eventual starter.”). You are the only person I know who can complain about getting exactly what you say we should have.

Simply not enough significant playing time to tell. There’s not nearly enough data to judge and anyone doing so is doing that without anything to go by. His limited time has defined nothing.

Hope he gets more opportunities this coming season to gain some meaningful in-game reps. We really don't know much at all about his abilities since he's been here. Spring games offer nothing of substance and our games were largely too close for much extra air time. The way Cade has improved though over the years I would imagine Vizzina is doing the same behind the scenes.

I think he will have a goal line package this year. He will be like an oak tree to tackle and will help the QB draw game Dabo so leans on in crucial situations. Saves Cade’s shoulders from injury.

He's going to have to keep working and get better...I've seen flashes of greatness. Cade wasn't out of the box ready either. I trust they will have him ready for 2026. I'm praying CK has a healthy productive year and CV can get some good reps and keep grinding to be ready to take over in 2026.

Big kid that can move and throw. Game still seems a little fast for him at the moment so I wouldn't feel super comfortable to see him take over for Cade but from what I recall he was viewed as a long-term project anyhow once he got on campus. He'll get the first look for sure.
I'm curious though to see Chris Denson. He might be a legit diamond in the rough kid who could challenge Vizzina. Hope he gets some game time too this year.
Next year you also have Tait show up. He probably won't be out of the box ready but could be a Tim Tebow-esque addition. I could see him being our battering ram for goaline situations early.

I feel like it’s super rare to be a 5 star signee to come and sit the bench for 3 years. I was excited to see Cade coming back, but also worried that it would run Vizzina off. I think it’s a great asset that he’s had so much time in GRs offense to be ready to take the reins next year, and I’m optimistic that his skill set will provide an immediate impact!

I think we'll see alot more of him if we can dominate more games this next season. Let's look at it this way. We all thought DJ was going to be superior based on just a handful or performances. That did not turn out to be even close to the truth. I think only time will tell for Vizzina. It's tough to see what someone really has when they know they don't own the car they are driving. When he does get to drive the car it has had the racing tires changed out for street tires, the gasoline changed from racing fuel to E85, and the spoiler has been removed from the back.

After reading this thread, I can only hope that Christopher Vizzina does not read TigerNet. While some of these posts are legitimate thoughts, I'm sure he would be shattered by many of the assessments/analyses placed here by all the experts who wrote them. He has learned that "Tait" is going to be another Tim Tebow and he now knows that Tim Denson is going to be a big surprise for us...sorry Mr. Vizzina, but your hard work and loyalty don't mean anything to some, and it seems that it does not matter that perhaps you see something worthwhile here at Clemson that transcends being the starting QB. Trust me, many of these poster's lives have been very positively influenced by being a part of Clemson. Sometimes they just "know not what they do"! So, based on the expert opinions that allow that you will always languish in the fields of mediocrity, I, for one, will not be surprised by any decisions you make regarding your future, or just how high you will be lifted! Just remember, as your coach always says, "Clemson is a special Place".

Without progression, we almost certainly will need to dip into the portal to find a starter for 2026.

To me it does not matter if Vizzina is not the 2nd coming for Trevor Lawrence. If we win with him when the day comes then that is good enough. So I won't hand wring about it. I'll just hope we build a superior supporting cast for whoever is QB have Cade leaves.

With what little time we saw of Vizzina this year, we could see was an improvement from the previous year. He should continue to develop. Remember, he was only 17 years old when he began his first year.

I think he's good enough with the right players around him, I see him more as a game manager than a playmaker at QB. With that said, I hope we find someone soon just incase...I think the kid from Arizona has potential to be really good.

I think he will develop into a great QB just like Cade has with experience.

As far as backups go we could do a lot worse. He's a former borderline 5 star with three years in the program. Not many other teams can say that. Now does that mean he'll ever take the next step and become an above average starter? Who knows but we could ask that about just about any of our backups. I'm glad to have him and hope to see him succeed.

I mean, it's not a dumb question at all, I think we are all curious. Dabo seems to believe in him, and that's a good sign, but he believed in DJ too.

Dabo & staff have seen that. Based on the time he's been in the program and the importance of having him ready to fully run the offense, it's reasonable to assume that with good coaching and full, sold-out focus on CV's part, he SHOULD be ready to play at a very high level. He was a 5-Star out of HS, correct? He most definitely should have all the tools needed to step in for CK if needed, and to take over the reins the 2025 season.

He could be ready to take over, but he has a star in front of him. Waiting 3 years could be huge for him. Learning from Cade and DJ on what not to do.

It would be nice to see Vizzina start against Furman and whoever the other cupcake is on the schedule. Clemson isn't likely to lose those games and it would really show us what he is capable of. There is probably a reason why that never happens, but I think there would be more up side to doing that than down side.

Thanks for all the input. A lot of interesting views. I read everyone and I think the consensus is he has the tools and will have extensive practice experience. We all just hope he can get into more game situations. Thanks again.

What would really show us

What he’s capable of would be to start him against an average ACC foe like NC State or Duke. See if he’s ready to take over primary duties… not just cupcake patrol.

And if he shows out in that game then what? You gotta qb issue now and poachers are on their way. Or if the opposite happens and bombs. Or what if the kid from Plant City bumps him down the roster.

CV will be fine. He’s just biding his time and waiting his turn. And learning all the way there. A lot like Cade patiently waiting behind DJ. Also tells you he is a team player and buys in to our football culture because he didn’t get antsy and transfer. He’ll have 2 years to be the guy after Cade leaves. The way Dabo is managing the QBs is making sure we always have a mature guy who has been in the system for a while as the starter.

Dabo believes he can be great. He CERTAINLY kniws more than we do. CV is poised and never has happy feet in the pocket. We were all (BEING HONEST) ready to flush Cade last year afyer GA game and in 2023. I believe all opposed to CV at this moment, should take a step back, look at our level of behind the scenes insight, be honest and humble and recognize that we ultimately have hunches butvare wrong more than we are right whem it comes to this exact type of arm-chair scouting and say- its wise to trust Dabo on this. Dabo isnt looking for a better option. The sample size of seeing CV play is almost nonexistent sooooo....lets let those who are in-the-know do the knowing while we trust them and cheer CV on

Vizz has been very good, in the limited opportunity he's gotten! We're at every home game & when he's inserted, he shows great poise, stands tall in pocket, and delivers the ball on time! And he's every bit the runner Cade is, and maybe better! Stating we should start him against an average ACC foe is absurd!! No quality coach in the country is going to do that! You think Ryan Day is starting his backup against Iowa just 'because' ??? No, he's not. We should be grateful that the dude has stuck around in this NIL era. He's certainly had offers to leave! I know that for a fact. And he was not a consensus 5 star!! Let's pump the brakes there. I think 1 service (out of 3) had him listed as such. You guys act like he was rated a top 2 QB in the country! He wasn't. And as for whoever said Tajh was "average"??? Holy #### learn football please!!!

Clemson should have a steady stable of running backs that can move the ball at will behind a strong offensive line. Vizzina should have the luxury of getting the nod and being able to make the easy throws that become available as defenses stack the box to stop the run. However, I believe that Tait Reynolds will be the next generational type of QB. The future is bright for Clemson.

Please hear me when I say this. Stop using the spring game as a predictor for how good a player is.
Cade Klubnik hasn’t had a good spring game yet AJ Hoffler looked like an all American in the spring game OL looked like complete trash again and everyone wrote them off
As far as his potential to be our starter goes, we honestly have no clue. We haven't recruited a great QB. We got a project in Chris Denson. Chances are he will be our starter unless Denson is a Diamond in the rough player.

Tait Reynolds will get the nod for sure. Just my opinion. I've watched a ton of film on him and the others. Tait just has the makeup of a starter for sure. A little raw, but he's got an accurate and powerful arm. He's also sporting a bigger frame and can be used in short yardage situations. His development will be key this season before he joins the team in 2026. I expect his star ranking to increase from 3.41 to at least a 4.65 by the end of this upcoming season for his senior year in high school. Many quarterbacks are overlooked. Just like Tom Brady and Joe Burrow were overlooked. Tait and possibly some others have been overlooked simply because they committed early to Clemson in the recruitment process.

To sit for three years tells me that he's not very good and probably wouldn't find another team to offer in the portal, and he's not getting mega NIL bucks at Clemson to stay.
