Without a Win at Home vs FSU,

10

Sep 6, 2023, 11:57 AM

the 2023 season becomes irrelevant except as a 3rd rebuilding season. That is the new reality of the Clemson Football program. It will be interesting to see everything on the line including potentially realignment desirability. The national media will be coiled and ready.

Back in the game and back on track Chuckston T-Man® ... I like our chances if players and coaches are ready to brawl.

Here are some facts which most evidently find irrelevant

Sep 6, 2023, 12:07 PM

these days.

There are only 5 Active College Football Head Coaches With National Titles

Nick Saban (Alabama)
Dabo Swinney (Clemson)
Jimbo Fisher (Texas A&M)
Kirby Smart (Georgia)
Mack Brown (North Carolina)

Of THOSE 5, only three have won all or most of them at their current school.

Nick Saban (Alabama)
Dabo Swinney (Clemson)
Kirby Smart (Georgia)

Now, Clemson ain't about to pry loose either Saban from Alabama, or Smart from Georgia. And Bimbo nor Brown is going to win another Natty. So, if Dabo Swinney has suddenly gotten so stupid, and needs to be replaced, who do you want to go after, and why?

Swinney deserves his spot on current Mt Rushmore of coaches

Sep 6, 2023, 12:14 PM

Hopefully, Coach Swinney is still in the game after rebuilding the culture, expectations, and truly the town of Clemson. Coach has certainly and deservedly cashed in. Does he still have the same fire and work ethic to win?

The college football climate in which Swinney won those titles

is now completely different. Swinney's lack of adaptation and change has rendered Clemson Football irrelevant in 2023.

There's something in these hills.

I've seen a few comments on here indicating a replacement but I don't think the vast majority of us on here want to see that.

I think the bigger concern is that while he won't be replaced at Clemson, he may be surpassed by those who choose to address the game as it is changing and not holding firm to the past based solely on previous successes.

The timing of the football decline certainly isnt great

Our desirability as an expansion target for the SEC/B1G is going to decline right along with it. We don't bring a great deal else to the table. Having one of the top 5 football programs in the country was really the thing we could hang our hat on.

You are correct. Given the challenges ahead I don't want to look too far into the future but there is a possibility we lose 8-9 defensive starters at the end of this year. We can't afford to waste this type of defensive talent on a "rebuilding" year. This should have been a high likelihood CFP year and now with just one more loss that hope will be gone. If we think this year is tough, just wait for next year if we have to roll with 8-9 new guys on the defensive 1-deep.
