Are "sin" and "bad behavior" synonymous?

If not, what are some examples of bad behavior that would not be considered sin?

These six things the LORD hates, Yes, seven are an abomination to Him: A proud look, A lying tongue, Hands that shed innocent blood, A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that are swift in running to evil, A false witness who speaks lies, And one who sows discord among brethren.

The New King James Version (Proverbs 6:16–19). (1982). Thomas Nelson.

Maybe could clarify the question. I ask because in Hunt's list is "... a heart that devises evil plans ...", which adresses the source rather than the action, which is an answer to the question. But you might be asking for something else, or for a certain reason, which is why I asked.

One driver speeding, late to a meeting, and one simply not paying attention to speed, are guilty of different things, with different intent. We might view them different morally. Same law broken, same ticket, same source: neglect.

Anyway, maybe clarify the question.

I need to think about whether some things should be illegal without being immoral, and if so why that is. How would you answer your question?

It seemed like you were saying the person who was late was NOT morally wrong, but the one who was not paying attention was.

According to the Christian worldview, anyone who breaks one law is guilty of them all.

Considering that, should a person who speeds get the death penalty?

If your answer is no, why are you ok with the sweet little old Muslim lady that never hurts a fly going to hell right beside Hitler?

Ah, I get it. You were not actually asking a question. I am not going to defend anything that 'seemed to be' to you. Defend your own thoughts. The OP was a legit question. I'm just trying to understand it and discuss it.

Carry on.

I believe it was you that stated we don't go to hell because of bad behavior and that's not what he's saving us from so I was curious what the difference between bad behavior and sins were.

So that’s the first i’ve heard of that.

My understanding of the theology is that we need Jesus because we have sinned. So if he’s not saving us from sin, what is he saving us from?

You have heard it. On this board, actually. Happened at the fall. Everything afterward is merely reflective. That's not me talking, but standard Christianity 101. We've discussed this several times. What is it you are actually asking?

I'm asking what we are being saved from if not sins, I'm pretty sure most people on this board would disagree with you, so I'm curious what you think it is.

It was discussed in detail below. You've read it. If you have a question about it, ask.

Well, I did ask about it, didn't hear a single one agree with you. It appears they also agree with the theology that the reason Jesus died was for our sins.

A proud look? So don’t be confident?

That lists seems a little outdated. Maybe because it was written 3000 years ago.

Pride here is arrogance. Arrogance is typically contrary to confidence. It's super destructive, especially with any sort of relationship, and that is why God hates pride (arrogance).

So why doesn’t it say arrogance?

That statement…” a proud look”, could mean so many different things.

Pride does not mean arrogance, you are changing it to make it make sense.

Here it definitely means arrogance. It's not in the sense of 'I'm proud of my kid'. The 'proud look' is a representation of pride manifesting itself.

How long will the simple remain simple?

I know that the word "pride" can mean different things in different contexts, which are not clear here. You do not know what exactly the writer meant, and that's the case with a lot of the bible.

It's like when Jesus said you must "hate" your family or you can't be his disciple. Well to you that's preposterous, so he must have mean something else.

Early on during the 2015/2016 primary season, evangelicals were one of the groups that were NOT on the Trump train. But they eventually became his most "faithful" (no pun intended) voting bloc.

Many evangelical leaders spent decades very loudly talking about Christian values and morals and how that was important to them in a candidate. Then they threw it all away in favor of a man who is the opposite of all of that. I think some evangelical churches are extremely political and push right-wing politics, and are willing to throw away Christian values and morals in order to get a Republican like Trump elected.

I have tended to look at like this:

I doesn't matter to me personally what the law or penalty is for murder. That is not what keeps me from killing someone.

"bad behavior" is governing through the laws of man.

"Sin" is governing through the laws of God.

Does that make sense? IDK
