What is the best "One off" live music performance that you remember seeing?

I mean on tv, not necessarily in person, as concert tickets are ridiculously priced these days. And by "one off", I mean something that did not wind up on a record even, in some cases.

For pure shock value, I nominate this one, Eric Church and Lzzy Hale at the 2014 Country Music Association Awards: That's D.amn Rock and Roll. I am sure it shocked that staid country music audience to its core. Me too, I had never even heard of Lzzy Hale before that night. The gal has a giant set of pipes on her.

Fiddling Phil from The Bowery house band3:30am July 5th 2010. After playing all night July 4th this guy came back to our rental house for the after-party. He jammed all night. Dude is a magician on the fiddle and even played for three different presidents. It was special.

Number two... Christmas eve night about 15yrs ago at the huntin lodge in Bear swamp....some drifter named Jody...best blues guitarist I ever heard in my life.

The Eagles. At Bon Secours Wellness Arena 4/25/22. Joe Walsh & Vince Gill in the band with Don Henley et all. Backed up by a gospel choir from Greenville. Great night

to say that my favorite of the three performances was the one during the "One of These Nights" tour. It was still the "original" lineup, with the addition of Don Felder, who came on board for their On the Border album.

They were always technical artists, and wanted to sound as good or better in person than they did on record. One example I remember was, during the song "One of These Nights", back then, Glenn Frey would actually clamp his hand on Don Henley's cymbal, to produce the same cutoff effect they had on the record. And at that point, Bernie Leadon was still in the band, so they played some of the songs that had his banjo in them, which you never hear them play now. It was a great night.

I saw Don Henley at the outdoor amphitheater near UNCC in early 90’s
Incredibly hot day in July
The show was delayed a bit he came out and told the audience he would play a couple of tunes and then go cool off and come back and rock out
He did!
But the amazing thing was the sound - how clear and clean.
My girl friend had just bought a high end state of the art stereo and the first CD we played on it was Don Henley
When the concert started in earnest it sounded like sitting in her living room
Amazing

One of these nights is my favorite song by the Eagles! I saw them in November last year in Charlotte. They had Vince Gill and Glenn Frey’s son was in the band.

"Tennessee Whiskey" and "I Can't Drink You Away" backed by a gospel choir and an astounding band. Best live TV performance I've ever seen, and I'm not much of a country fan. Stapleton is an unreal talent and Timberlake is as well.

was the world's introduction to Chris Stapleton as a performer, even though he had been a songwriter in Nashville for several years before finally deciding to do his own thing. As great a songwriter as he is, I always find it ironic that the song that became his first big hit, Tennessee Whiskey, was written by Dean Dillon and Linda Hargrove, and first released on record by David Allan Coe.

Writer and one of the best voices to ever sing through a mike, period. Timberlake takes crap about the boy band stuff and his poppy image, but that dude is a total package. Their performance that night blew the building apart, period.

I love Justin and I’m a fan of Chris also although I can barely listen to country music for 15 minutes 😆. Chris has that bluesy somewhat R&B sound that I love. He’s one of the few country singers I will listen to. I’m also a fan of Kacey Musgraves. My daughter bought us tix to see her in Charlotte this year.

Is already, to me, one of the greatest pure voices of all time. You cannot teach what is in his voice. It is innate. I am no country fan at all but CS is an all time great in any genre. JT is in the room with MJ as an all around musical talent.

This is a performance I have never forgotten and goes back to 2001 right after 9/11 when celebrities/musicians performed live on TV to raise money for the victims. Sheryl Crow and a gospel choir performed her song called “safe and sound” on there and I’ve never been so moved as I was by that song and performance that night. Such a beautiful song. Emotions were so raw during that time and I’ll never forget it. I don’t know how she performed that song without crying!

I like all kinds of music from classical to country. The biggest surprise was when I came home to SC to visit family and friends while I was living in IL. My friends drug me to Blind Horse Saloon in Greenvilles for an evening. They had a show and I had no clue who this Trace Atkins guy was. It was about the time he was releasing his first album. What a surprise and good show.
