You don't flip the bat 50 feet into the air though.

That's poor sportmanship and in the majors if you show off like that, you get a pitch in the rib.
Ever heard of the phrase act like you been there before? You don't flip your bat or look at your hit in baseball, never, it's one of the unwritten rules of the sport.
Wiki: In the United States, bat flips have traditionally been considered rude and inconsistent with baseball etiquette.[2] Traditional etiquette and the unwritten rules of baseball espouse humility and discourage actions which may be interpreted as arrogant or showing up the opponents.[3]
Torii Hunter, a retired Major League Baseball player and fan of bat flips in Korean baseball, has stated that a player throwing a bat in such a manner during a game in the United States would likely face retaliation in a subsequent at bat, such as being hit by a pitch.[2]
In April 2015, Yasiel Puig stated that he would flip his bat less frequently because he wanted "to show American baseball that I'm not disrespecting the game".[4]

The "unwritten rules" in baseball are stupid.

It's a game. It's not that serious. Let them have fun. That goes for all levels.

How come a pitcher can pump his fist and yell when he gets a K?
Mar 25, 2016, 11:33 PM

Is that not showing up the opponent?

Why did McCann get so offended when Gomez hit a HR a few yrs

back: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HckouWn7Mg4
Watch, Gomez hits the HR, flips his bat, then starts a slow trot to first barking at the pitcher (I think it was Hanson that day).
Catchers are gonna protect their pitchers. Fist pumps are considered an example of showboating yes, but it arguably takes a whole lot more skill to strike out the best college hitters, let alone the best pro ones. Pitchers have a right to get excited because they recorded 1/27 outs for their team.
I don't like it when batters look at a hit and flip their bat, it's disrespectful to the sport and it has directly led to the showboating by pitchers.

He got offended because after the bat flip he walked and stared down Maholm, started #### talking Maholm, and proceeded to #### talk the whole Braves infield.
That's night and day from what the Miami player did tonight.
And why is it bad for players to show emotion, it's a #### game and players can be excited, especially when they are in college. Let us not forget the kid who bat flipped in the Columbia regional for us a few years ago.

Pretty sure nobody complained when Mack Island acted arrogant or showed up opponents.
Let the kids celebrate and have some fun.

Nothing impressive about the celebration in any of today's games. Celebrate when you win. Doesn't make you a man to do some of the junk I see in every sport, which is why I quit watching all professional sports.

Its not Latino specific. Gosh. What an idiotic statement. Beer went ape nuts when he hit his walk off. PLUS this was Abreu's SECOND walk off in 7 days! The 1st was a grand slam and then tonight...

We are a very excited bunch. Baseball is king in the Mar Caribe. Just the way it is. I grew up going to my dad's "semi pro" games in Santurce, PR. that's about as fun as it gets. Both teams cooking out afterwards...... lots of rum....... Baseball is an American pass time, but in Puerto Rico........ it is a way of life. Much like college football in the south.
