I made the mistake of looking at TNet with about 3 minutes left in the game. And what did I see? Posts whining about Brownell. Posts saying how awful PJ Hall is. Posts ripping Clark. Posts prepping for a big choke job.
I'm convinced some of you wanted Clemson to lose just to justify your thoughts on Brownell. Even this morning there are posts about it being a one-off and questioning if they can they do it again.
They literally just made the Sweet 16, yet the mouth-breathers are here trashing the coach, the team, and the program.
To be clear, we ALL were disappointed with the bad ACC tourney loss to BC. But that game is ERASED. We're in the Sweet 16. Nobody gives two gumballs about an ACC first-round loss anymore.
Making the Dance was the expectation. Winning a first-round game with our roster should've been an expectation as well. Winning last night was a delicious cherry on top. We're playing with house money now.
I've wanted us to move on from CBB for a while now, admittedly. But no one can deny what he's done the past two games has been tremendous. Last night was easily his best-coached game ever. Easily.
I'm just asking for this week. Holy Week, Sweet 16 week, that you all just support the team. Nobody on the team or sidelines is perfect. But all of them together are definitely one of the best 16 teams in the nation.
Let's go get in that Elite 8.

I hate the constant assault on Browneee!
He has actually done well with the portal, but he is not always the best coach on game day! Similar to Tommy Bowden. Difficult to be all-in, but I am always pulling for Browneee and the Tigers! Play and coach our Best Game and we win every time!
Go Tigers, Beat Arizona!

You act like someone holds a gun to your head and makes you post every so often? If you don't like it here, then, DON"T SHOW UP! Simple as that.
While I certainly do not agree with everybody on here, unless they start personally attacking others, I let it slide. This is a DISCUSSION forum, not a singalong where we all hold hands and go Kumbaya.
Even you are entitled to post whatever you want, whenever you want, within certain MOD imposed limits. But, if all you are going to do is complain about the site when you post, seems like your time could be better spent in other pursuits, is all I'm saying.

team should just slink off and spend their time doing something else? Seems like good advice, but that's also discounting human nature.
Also, I don't think he/she personally attacked anyone. I certainly didn't read him mention 76er, so not sure why you just didn't heed your own advice and let it slide.
To each their own.

he has a right to post his complaints about idiot posters. ANd there are some pretty ridiculous posts about basketball on here this week. If other people have a right to posts stupid complaints about our teams rise to the Sweet 16 ,then certainly he has a right to complain about the idiots who apparently have absolutely no understanding of basketball. Just as you have a right to tell him bye, but that sure doesnt make you right either. So i tell him hello, as that is my right. GO TIGERS!

that if they chime in with a criticism after a win, they know they'll get hit with the retort "you're not even happy with a win!" And people will respond that way even if the criticism is true.
In other words, some are so reflexively eager to dismiss the criticism, that they won't address it on the merits, but simply want to pretend that a "W" is an all-purpose eraser. They do this by asserting that any criticism in the wake of a win shows you to be a disloyal, unappeasable complainer. To be fair, that, may indeed be true of some criticsm. But - and here's the rub - some will reflexively respond that way without discerning the difference - to them, any negative word - no matter how accurate or substantive, proves that the one issuing is a mere malcontent.

There’s a Pro BB crowd and an anti BB crowd. Both have valid arguments and we’ll argue ourselves into the ground.
I have definitely learned the hard way to not get caught up in the middle of a game and I definitely try to wait until the game is over.
For me nothing has changed as far as my view of BB. Am I pleasantly surprised that we made the sweet 16? Yes, without a doubt. This is not the same team we saw during ACC play and definitely not the team that finished the season.
In order for BB to win me back would be to make it back to the dance next year and the following year. Heck just going back next year would show me something he has yet to do. That’s go back to back.
But y’all BB lovers need to stop acting like y’all saw this coming. You would be lying through your teeth. You are just as surprised as the rest of us. Only difference is you support BB and want to come on and brag as if your love of BB proved you are right and we are wrong. Nothing after two games has vaulted BB into elite coaching status. Unless he Magically made Chase Hunter get hot.

If back to back appearances is what it takes to "win you back" then I'd say you've never been much of a BB fan to begin with since we have only had consecutive appearances TWICE in our 100+ year history, 96-98 & 08-11.

Oh I have full understanding of what our history is. I just don’t care. If we are going to use our history as an excuse as to why we will never be great then just shut the doors to any sport that doesn’t have elite history. If not always strive to be great. Always shoot for conference championships and national championships. We should always want to see steps the going up and the arrow pointing up.
So over 14 years I’ve come to not trust a BB coach team. This year proves my point. How badly up and down had this team been? If he goes and misses the next two tournaments it’ll prove our point again. How about show us you can become a consistent tournament team.

Nah. Barnes went 3 consecutive times with a Sweet 16, Purnell went 3 consecutive times, then Brownell made that a 4th consecutive time with his first team (with OP's leftovers). So the two previous coaches not named Larry Shyatt both made it 3 consecutive times. Cliff Ellis also had back-to-back in 88 and 89, plus 3 out-of-4 years (86, 88, 89) and a Sweet 16.
Before Cliff Ellis's tenure, then NCAA did not have 64 teams, that started in 1985. Brownell has 68 chances every year.
Brownell made NCAAT his first season (which marked the 4th consecutive trip for Clemson, after OP's 3-in-a-row). Then we had to wait 7 long years for a return. Then we had a Sweet 16 appearance! Fantastic! That was followed by a "disappointing" year where we won 20 games, 8th in ACC, but were bounced in 2nd round in the NIT, then a 16-15 season, 9th place in ACC, with no post season (COVID cancelled postseason, but Clemson wasn't going anywhere anyway).
Three years after the last trip, a COVID-shortened season saw Clemson go 16-8, 5th in ACC, and squeaked into NCAAT, one-and-done. That was followed by a 17-16 season and then another "disappointing" year where we had 20+ wins but went one-and-done in the NIT (after several Quad 4 losses during the season).
The lack of consistency is the #1 reason I've advocated for giving someone other than Brownell a chance to lead the team.

to harbor criticism on those same points without wanting the team to lose. If that's the case, and it is, then it makes more sense that that is a more broadly applicable description of the critics than the idea that they want Clemson to lose. I'm sure there are those that do want them to lose, but it would be a hard sell to tag that as anything other than a pretty small minority (just to be clear, as I know you didn't say it was a majority). Vehemence of criticism doesn't imply wanting the team to lose, even if a select few of those people do.
Just as there may be some who want them to lose to vindicate their criticism, there are also like those who want to pretend that winning necessarily nullifies all those criticims, so that they can, in turn, then accuse the critics of wanting Clemson to lose for vindication. But that doesn't float all that well . . . the criticism's don't depend on Clemson losing for vindication. Clemson won last night, and yet it's still 7000% true that they issued a trifecta of poor rebounding, bad shot choices, and sloppy-turnover-ridden play en route to making a 15 point lead into a 3 point lead in the span of 4 minutes. AND that that kind of thing is unacceptably common for Clemson. It's also true that Clemson played with fire this way in a game in which Baylor shot 38% from the field. Had Baylor played even marginally better, it would've been the death knell of our chances. All this stuff is true whether Clemson won or not. So the critics don't really "need" a loss to be correct about all that stuff.
Now, this doesn't necessarily mean Coach Brownell is a bad coach or that he should be fired, but to whether extent that kind of thing plays a part in any analysis of his job performance consistency, clean play, game-preparedness, etc., then it is wholly relevant and can't be reduced to simply whether it was a W or an L.
