To see what college coaches are now being paid is right at the door of turning me against college sports. That is a ridiculous amount of money to pay a coach to teach a college student how to play a GAME!!!

If you look at Dabo's ROI to the university, community, and even the state, during his tenure, he is an absolute bargain...

I don't disagree, but in the future, if you want to know how the big money in college sports (and let's face it: it's only football) led to its downfall, you'll need to start with the outrageous salaries of coaches.

The reality is what the schools and conferences and media were bringing in on the backs of athletes who were getting scholarships and not much else. Escalating coaches salaries may have contributed but were not the main driver. But again, when you look at the financials of a Clemson or UGA before Dabo and Kirby arrived, and compare that to now, you start to see why they get what they get.

Well, I buy into the return on investment part, it is a bit absurd that a guy basically gets paid roughly $900,000 per football game to coach. I understand it’s what the market demands, but when you have school teachers who don’t earn $900000 in 15 years, its a bit sickening

yup... and, it's the reason that i'm caring less and less about clemson football as time goes by. sure, i'm still a tiger fan and i watch 'em and i go to a game or two a season, but it's lost it's charm. and, it started w/ outbidding other schools for head coaches.
i know coaches work hard.. pressure.. stress.. expectations.. recruiting.. discipline.. hiring assistants, etc.. it's A LOT of work, i know. but, do you REALLY think these top paid coaches wouldn't do their job for 1/5 of their current salary? of course they would.
i'm all for capitalism but dang. at some point it's detrimental to the cause.

Result of NIL, portal

Just like any other business, the CEO has to be paid more than the workers/managers. NIL has increased the pay to the workers, and the portal has also increased that pay.
There is no way anyone who supports NIL and portal can oppose coaches getting the best deal they can get! If it works for one, it has to work for the other!

That analogy doesn't really hold true in sports. Look at any professional league - coaches are not paid more than players. Also, these coach salaries were astronomical prior to NIL.

Wow. Shane Beamer really pulled the wool over someone's eyes. Getting paid what Texas, Southern Cal and Ohio State coaches are paid...or, maybe he has some photos of the board of trustees and farm animals???

When you compare what Dabo has done for a number of young men, then look at all the Ivy League professors and teachers and what they have turned out. No comparison!

Maybe the JK ban also has something to do with it, but not one poaster on here whining about how Dabo hasn’t earned his salary lately and should be giving a portion of it back to the university.

With the millions of dollars major football teams bring in, the salaries that coaches command are very well justified.
