I'm an old guy (I cleaned that up nicely for TIGERNET fans), but I do remember back when Oklahoma was a beast of a program. Not so much lately, but I wish Brent and Wes much success. I would like to see us meet in the National Championship game, and us whipping their butts with Clemson exiting as the National Championship program where we belong, and Oklahoma giving us a good go of it in a losing effort, but reestablishing themselves as a real factor in the National Championship picture.

If you claim to be a prognosticator and saying “just wait and see”, you can’t be wrong about 5 out of 7. Especially when the one you’re “right” about is your third claim to one job and everyone else knows about him as well.

I will concede you were 100 right about Wes to OU, so long as you admit you were 100 wrong about Conn, Spiller, Reed and two DC candidates.

I’ll be waiting because you’re never going to admit that.

And I’d be willing to bet your original Wes to OU news wasn’t accurate at that time at all. It’s been several weeks. My money is on this being a new development.

We will never know, so I’ll go ahead and state it as fact: Wes wanted to go to OU, but BV didn’t want him as anything higher than a position coach. So Wes settled this week for LB coach.

Prognosticating is easy when there are no facts involved!

Who else was interested in him other than BV, BV was smart enough not to put him as an on the field coach or as his DC. Smart move by BV bc he don't have the power that Dabo has at Clemson with Oklahoma!!!

I don’t understand.

(?). Why wouldn’t BV want Goodwin as the defensive analyst at OK? It’s not like BV has less power at OK than Dabo has at Clemson. BV had the power to hire a ‘failed’ DC to be on his staff, albeit as defensive analyst. If BV had ‘not enough power,’ then the OK bosses might have told him something along the lines of ‘BV, OK football hasn’t been good enough the past three years. OK football doesn’t want the image of known failures being hired by you. We want nothing but winners at OK.’

“Clemson terminated Goodwin's contract early without cause, meaning he is owed the remainder of his contract ($3.1 million): $1.5 million in 2025 and $1.6 million in 2026. However, his buyout can be reduced if he finds another job, triggering mitigation.

Mitigation happens when an employee finds new employment, and the person's buyout amount owed is reduced by the amount earned at the new job during the remainder of the terminated contract.”

For people to get promotions. We promoted him. Now we’ve fired him. Oklahoma wouldn’t then promote him to dc nor would we have if they just fired him. Another stupid post from JK that is pointless and only trying to throw shade on Dabo. I don’t get why you hate him and Clemson football so much.

Actually that’s not true. BV was looking to take him with to OK when he left, and Dabo promoted Goodwin so he wouldn’t lose him. The reality is, OK doesn’t have/need a DC bc BV is the actual DC.

Of course you will hate everything Dabo does bc he hasn’t hit the level of success as Brownell so far, but you can at least know the facts.

^^^^^ yes ^^^^^

Wes Goodwin did his best while at Clemson. Dabo rolled the dice that Goodwin’s superb FB brain would translate to being a superb DC. It didn’t work out.

Terry Don Phillips rolled the dice that never-been-a-coordinator WR coach Dabo Swinney should get a shot as HC. Swinney had a reasonably short leash, but not an absurdly short one. No one will ever know, but if Dabo had another poor season in 2011 (his 3rd season) as he did in 2010, then it it would have been reasinably likely that Dabo would have been cut loose.

Goodwin had three years to master the craft at DC. The evidence in his third year was that Goodwin wasn’t getting better. So here we are, with changes for the better looking likely at both Clemson and Oklahoma.

It all looks good.

BV liked WG well enough that he wanted to hire him to his original OU staff. Dabo liked him well enough that he offered him the DC position to keep him at Clemson. Why wouldn't BV still want him as an Analyst? He was a great analyst for us. You can have a great football mind and not be a great DC.
