A bit of both but still picking Clemson as a contender outright

I heard that too, & several other videos where he highlights Clemson as an ACC title contender & more.
He does that here too though, just kinda highlighting the concerns, but notably how Clemson may likely overcome them with scheme & personnel (i.e., rather than saying they're not title-competitive).
I think the headline is just more of a trigger that changes how we see the entire rest of the article in spite of McElroy highlighting how Klubnik could be the next Joe Burrow, for one example. But it's always good to see more good national news & insight like this, & I absolutely agree with him Clemson will contend outright.

To be fair, it kinda doesn't seem that way more than we make it that way often is all, no?
He & others have been gleaming on Clemson all month, & this clip is a great example that's also quoted in the article above: https://x.com/AlwaysCFB/status/1825865364720554492

I think he's concerned about our strength and encouraged about our weakness, but who knows.
If our OL holds its own against UGA I will be very impressed and hopeful for the game.

If our Offensive line can hold up their defense, and Mafah can establish a run game, and a balanced attack, The Defense will get the rest they need to win. But the Defense won't win the game on their own.

If dipchit McElroy has heard these things about our defense, how did he miss the part about our # 1's on the offense went against our # 2's on the defense. I'm inclined to believe that dipchit McElroy is trying to create a negative stir among our Fan base, don't you think!!!

The only trick is to get ratings and clicks. That's all these guys care about.
All that really matters is how teams perform on the field once the season begins. The rest is bull crap.

I gotta disagree.
McElroy, Patterson, Herbstreit & many other big national voices have been explicitly endorsing Clemson to contend again this season.
The problem is we don't respond or engage with that stuff but more often highlight the few critiques & more closely emulate Tyler from Spartanburg than Coach Swinney.
McElroy has done arguably the best deep-dive on Clemson from a non-Clemson voice again this year & the vast majority of it is both gleaming & inherently optimistic, even comparing Cade with Joe Burrow (which I like as Burrow had a worse year than Cade before his breakout season at LSU).
We seek out the negative & often vastly spin the positive into negative in spite of Clemson being a legitimate topic in the national overlook, & I get it, it's just hard to stomach sometimes.

I recall the later half of the 2018 season, McElroy was on ESPN Radio’s First Team with Taylor Zarzour. I would listen to that show every morning and all anyone, those two included wanted to talk about was how Alabama was just on a level of their own and no one had a chance of competing with them.
I know I heard McElroy state several times that Clemson’s offensive line was “just okay”. He was adamant that our offensive line could not stand up against Bama’s defensive line.
Then we meet up in Santa Clara and 44-16 happened. …..Ahem.

Seems like everyone was wrong back then.
Here's hoping instead McElroy is right this time about Clemson being a legitimate contender & Cade being perhaps the next Joe Burrow.

Got to disagree with you tater. Bama did look unbelievable the entire season. No one was wrong about how good they were. We were clearly better on one night. Fortunately that one night is all that matters.
We probably beat them 3 times out of 10 that season. The score in the natty is nowhere indicative to just how close a game it was... it was just our night. Bama made a lot of mistakes in that game. It reminded me of our game against dook last year. The dook game was not indicative of the final score. It just got away from us and we made mistakes but it was closer than the final score.
Flame away but I always try to tell it like I see it.
As for what McElroy says, I agree with him. We are thin on the ends. While we have some studs on the dline, we're not deep. We should be able to whack most of our opponents and make them play catch up. It's the 3-4 opponents that could give our dline problems.

How do you determine we would only win 2 of the next 9 games after clapping them by 4 TDS. Bama wasn't the better team, isn't the better team and never was the better team. Ridiculous take. Go Tigers!!!!

Our 3rd String Dline has three 4 stars

Our 4th string Dline has three 4 stars as well. Our 1st string Dline potentially has three projected 1st-2nd round draft picks. Sadly, this level of "analysis" is to be expected in this day and age.

just another esecpn hack that talks out of both sides of their mouth. If the offense was shutdown, then the babble would be the offense stinks and the defense has it easy. Typical sec excuse generation.

Didn’t all of these guys play 5 years? And all of them really only had one great year. If Cade can become comparable to those guys in just his 3rd year, wouldn’t that be a huge success??

Thank you for the bulletin board material. The last element of a Clemson football team that you want to upset is the Defensive Front 7. Clemson players are keeping receipts, and you just added to the balance!

I respect McElroy, but I disagree with him about the DL. I am encouraged that our OL was able to play with the DL, but I am expecting the DL to be among the best in college football. It is true that they are light on experience, having lost the starting 4 (3 drafted), but we have 5 with significant experience and a lot of young but potentially excellent backups who will finally get that experience this year.

If he talked about being really thin at CB due to injury then I’d believe he’s actually paying attention and speaking to people that have covered fall camp. He just read a few posts on X to form an opinion is my guess. He won’t get anything close to an understanding until he’s reached Atlanta and then he will be 90% focused on hyper ventilating about Georgia.
