The hype surrounding this team is growing daily and will reach a fevered pitch by the time we kick off the season.

I said earlier I believe the LSU game will feel like a must win game for Dabo and the tigers.

Much of this is due to losing our opener the last two years. Championship caliber teams don't lose their opener 3 consecutive seasons.

On the positive side LSU has lost their opener 3 straight years and that number grows to 4 if they lose.

That , combined with playing on the road puts an even greater amount of pressure on LSU.

I think we get it done and are in the drivers seat that takes us to the playoffs.

I realize we could lose this game and still make it to the playoffs but a win convinces me this team can win it all. Go Tigers !

I do not think we lose to LSU in week 1, straight up.

However, to your point, make no mistake, LSU is the toughest challenge on the schedule.

They're out-of-conference, obviously early in the season, & a huge opponent, all of which likely doesn't hurt us for making the CFP outright at all, sincerely, but instead likely helps us.

I just don't see anyone else in the way of the ACC title game & making the playoff again, but beating LSU might finally get even the staunchest doubters here on board.

We really need to beat them....so sick of the losing to the sec narrative lately.

Very fair points by McElroy.

Although I'm sure some here will find fault with it and say that he's being a negative hater.

He's so high on Clemson (similar to last year) but now other reporters are getting on-board, too. Can't wait to see what we can do if we get to the playoff, & I sincerely don't see much of a chance to miss it outright this season.

Pressure comes with the mega salary and the first-class facilities. Properly handled, pressure is a good thing.

Absolutely.

I will take any bet for Clemson to make the CFP this year, absolutely; the Tigers are the most experienced roster in the sport, the schedule is favorable, & I just don't see anyone else getting in our way on the schedule to keep us out of the CFP.

If we don't make the CFP this year it's a bust for sure, I just agree with the article that it's not all likely to happen. Gonna be a fun season. Go Tigers!

I think Greg McElroy needs to spend some more years watching CFB

(There’s always pressure to win at Clemson)

Explain?

I'm not sure I understand.

McElroy was probably the most optimistic national voice on Clemson again last year & sounds like he's even higher on the Tigers this season (& I'd say rightly so), but us not making the playoff this year with the most-experienced roster in the sport, a unanimous 5-star QB in his final year, a favorable schedule outright & no clear roadblocks in the ACC with an auto-bid for the playoff, I can't imagine we'd be OK missing the playoff this year, but I'm curious if that's what you meant.

It's a "nit pick" but I would say not making the playoffs isn't a "massive"

disappointment. But yes...I think that's the expectation this year.

And I agree with everything else he said. I think Dabo knows that this year is pivotal to his program. Because he's constantly fighting against a narrative that his approach to college football is archaic, having a successful season this year will help him push back on that and sell the program going forward.

I also agree with what was said above...it starts with LSU. Technically not a "must win" (an ACC championship gets us into the playoffs, I would guess), but emotionally it really is. There is something wrong with the way we are starting the seasons...not just losing the openers...getting smashed. By Georgia, fine, but Duke? Yikes.

We are better this year than last. We have to be ready to win on August 30th. And then a championship-mindset team comes back the next week and looks sharp against Troy. Consistent, week-to-week focus.

That's the way it almost always is. This year even more though. The team is stacked. They need to stay healthy though.
