How bad does the RB room have to be that you have to play a recruited WR, that never played the position in HS or D1, in front of several recruited RB's. I am not buying that he is some sort of hidden RB talent, because if he was they would have moved him there sooner.........

They moved him to RB really early, Randal has been a WR for 3 years, and they move him before the playoff game? Something is wrong with that room. I maybe wrong, but my gut says otherwise.

This is simply not true, went to Grayson HS, played “wing” in a triple option offense also know. As the C Back or B back depending on the offensive system that you run most certainly is a RB position…what are you talking about sir? Of course with all due respect.

So you play a WR over a recruited RB?

David Eziomume, Kieth Adams, Jr and Jarvis Green were all options, yet we play a 3rd year WR? I just don't get it, either we are bad at evaluating talent or we got issues in that room. Like I said I maybe wrong, it just smells fishy to me.

We signed a bunch of 3 stars and non of them hit. green is the best option by far but Randell is a lost duck trying to fit in with a bunch of gooses, I honestly believe it’s a last attempt by the coaching staff to get him to return after being thrown down the depth chart. IMO if GD is good as advertised he will be James Davis 2.0, that’s what I keep hearing and last I checked JD 2.0 sounds pretty good IMO top 5 Clemson RB of all time.
1a) Etienne 1b) Spiller 3) Mike Bellamy lol JK 3) Ellington 4) Priester 5) Davis/Gallman/Zachery/ REGGIE MERRIWEATHER!!!

Green and Adams are not gonna cut it at this level as primary backs. EZ needs to add weight. Moving Randall to RB was a great decisions that shows this staff can think on the fly. We will be fine next year. Both Gideon Davis and that kid from BHP are elite backs, throw in a 230 lb back that has hands, and we have a really good stable of backs heading into next season. We return almost everyone on the O line to further develop, and we add some nice pieces. Our WR, providing no one leaves, will be elite. As long as Cade returns, and there is no reason he should not, we will have one of the best offenses in the country next year.

It's not fishy. As other posters have pointed out, almost nobody in the country has good talent at 3rd or 4th string running back.

Well kieth Adam's a junior and Haynes and green are sophomores. Nothing wrong with maybe moving green to wr. Haynes has flashed but let's keep it real, adams green and Haynes were, are backups. Not a cut on them, but maybe we get one year from them. Obviously Eziomume and this class's RB should be our 1-2 punch next season. That said, with a healthy mafah, we really haven't been effective running all year. We've won with cades arm all year... even with. 500 acc teams.
Recruiting and bad management strategies have kept us from being elite the last 4 years. We will win 10 games a year, hoist the acc trophy and compete with good teams... kinda like Indiana, Tennessee, ole miss's and Oklahoma's. That's not all bad. That's 99% of college fb.

Mafah has had his shoulder in a brace all season, I believe it was hurt going into the season when he raised it up. It hurt his pass catching some and his ability to mow guys down late in the game.

Probably more of an indictment on Randall’s ability as a WR tbh.

I think it's about size right now. Randall is just bigger than the other backs we have currently. Those smaller 195lb guys weren't going to be running through texas defenders.

I mean, CJ obviously hasn't hit it out of the park on the recruiting front. We don't have any real stars back there. That said, I don't think this is really a reflection of that. Mafah is really injured and is barely limping along (and avoiding any and all contact). Haynes is completely out. I don't think it's a shocker that Randall would be a potentially more dangerous threat at running back than a 3* third stringer, especially since Randall is decent at blocking and a receiving threat and we were leaning on Cade. We also have less need for Randall at receiver, because while he's decent, Wesco, Moore, Williams, and Brown are obviously better. The goal is to get your best players on the field.

How bad are NFL teams running back rooms that players like Samuel and Patterson get snaps at RB?

Randall's about the size of Derrick Henry

He can run with the ball better than run routes. Why not move and use him as power back in 2025? Nothing to lose.

He may, also, have better knowledge of the offense, as he's been in it several years. Rb is not as technical as wr. Blocking is the biggest issue to learn.

It doesn't have to be "over." It'll just be "in addition to." He could turn into a Deebo Samuel type player, a hybrid receiver/running back who's got size, physicality, decent athleticism, can run well with the ball, and can make catches. That could be a real weapon if used properly. It doesn't have to mean he'll be getting in the way of Haynes, EZ-E, or the other primary backs.

i think this season has shown a lot of our coaching weaknesses in several areas. They we're high on Adams and EZ early on. But then we rarely see either one of them. Obviously, Haynes was our next man up. But you would think one of the two other backs would be able to step in and run some plays. I like Randall moving over to RB, but doesn't this kind of show we aren't developing our RBs?

I think people tend to take coach's press conferences as gospel, which is a bad mistake. Coaches are going to talk up all their players. I've heard so many people say EZ is "the dude" when he was a middling high school running back and hasn't done anything with the touches he's had, just because Dabo talks highly of him. I'd rather try out a running back with Randall's speed and size who can block and is a receiving threat over some 3* who's 4 back on the depth chart.

I just think this says volumes about that position group and the place it is in at the moment. I hope Haynes makes it back as quick as he can, because we are looking thin.......

It doesn't say volumes. You're taking about 3rd and 4th string players. Most teams have the same "problem."

In all reality as a fan base we know what needs to happen this offseason, hire an ACTUAL defensive coordinator with ACTUAL experience, Goodwin is a nice guy no doubt, the dude has ZERO F’n clue how to run a defense and what to do on each down and distance. How to run a depth chart, or anything remotely close on how to be a defensive coordinator. Before being a DC @ Clemson he has had ZERO experience being not only a DC but a f’n defensive positional coach in general. It’s a complete f’n joke it took his DA 12 games too realize Sammy Brown needs to be on the field for 90% of the defensive snaps. That fact alone should get him fired. Go hang out with Billy Napier and be his DC, good luck at the outback bowl next year WG as you sir are not a real DC. Just as BN was not a real OC and some how DA Fla got tricked into thinking the opposite, quite amusing at the underground coaches circles.

Not rare in CFB to move WR to RB -and- vice versa

GA Tech star RB Jamal Haynes was a WR who didn’t do anything in 2022 season.
He got moved to RB and … POOF! … 1000 yard rusher.
I think that Pitt’s speedster RB (the little guy who was touted as Pitt’s most heralded offensive threat) had been a WR before getting moved.
From a few things that I’ve read, we’re considering recently signed incoming freshman RB Marquis Henderson for either RB or slot receiver role.
I like the thought of Adam Randall becoming a race car version of the H-back, a true first-option offensive threat as opposed to the college stereotype H-back that is the clunky but gritty walk-on type who does his job blocking and is a check-down option for catching passes. Adam Randall’s skills would make him a serious first-option threat to make plays from the backfield to deep downfield. Including being used for straight up RB type plays.
Create a position for him. His versatility as working out of a backfield area would make someone with his varied top end abilities a matchup nightmare and a true big time offensive weapon.

I like Adams’s willingness to move positions to help the team. So many guys now are now me first especially with the portal and nil deals. I’d also like to see if he could transition to a possible TE role, losing Briningstool. Much like Brandon Ford did several years ago. Not sure if he could add another 20lbs and still be agile and effective…

If he averaged 11 yards per carry, why didn’t he get more than four carries? If he’s willing to move to get in the field, do not ask questions. Move him.

My guess, they only had a few packages for him. He is not used to protecting the QB, and we were mostly passing. If he had been a RB more than a week, they probably have more time to get him used to more formations and plays. But given the short turn around, they probably had a single package, maybe two, for him to play RB out of. And again, we were behind, so we had to pass more.
