If those are the 3 top candidates, then Brownell is #1. Steven's has a sweet gig in Boston and Pearl is rolling at Auburn. Brownell would be the best bargain and is the only 1 of these that could be called stale in his current gig. I think Clemson and Brad could benefit from a change a scenery. Just my opinion.

Indiana won't accept "greatest success down south with 4 ncaa tournament appearances in 15 seasons..." when their expectations are a final 4 every year and national championships.

It is good pr for Clemson to have articles like this. Wouldn't surprise me if they can't get pearl, they might try to lure pat kelsey away from Louisville.

IMO when people are looking at Brownell as there coach and what he has done at Clemson, it's no secret that Brownell took over a program at a school that didn't make their basketball program a high priority. And that here of late Brownell has been able to do what not many if any has accomplished and that is to get the administration to put some faith in our basketball program and invest in it more than they have in past history and it's starting to work for Brad. Just my opinion.

CBB was never a second thought when you had to recruit players. The best thing to happen to CBB was being able to buy players from the portal. We always knew his recruiting stunk but he appears to be a decent coach except when he is close to being top 25 team, then he ppoo's the bed somehow.

Let's hope this last loss doesn't compound itself.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The best thing to happen to CBB was the collapse of basketball in the ACC.

PJ Hall, Hunter Tyson, Chase Hunter. No coach in America works both ends -- high school recruiting and the portal than Coach BroWnell. And yes the W is capitalized.

Totally agree with the narrative of basketball wasn't a priority...however OPP and Barnes were able to coach up teams and have success in a much shorter window. I think Brad has done a good job with the portal and we are in a good position overall talent wise but we still struggle to finish against less talented teams. NIT losses were embarrassing over the yrs in the same fashion as losing to tech after leading the entire game. My hopes are high for a sweet 16 run. Go Tigers!!!

Barnes and Purnell windows were short

Because they left for better jobs. Clemson fans do not understand Clemson basketball. They do not understand the history. Most toxic T Netters/Lunatic Fringe are making fun of the fact that Coach Brownell was mentioned for the Indiana job. You will not appreciate what you've got until its gone.

2025 purple level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well yes, but Barnes had only one year where we advanced in the NCAAT

and Purnell had zero.

Brad has advanced a majority of the time he has taken us to the Big Dance, and also gave us our best season in program history last year.

There is really no comparison, no matter how much some people here want to prop up the limited success that Barnes and Purnell had here.

so this makes a ton of sense. He is still young, so another 14 year program rebuild is still doable for him. It will be interesting to see how Drad and Miami respond. I hope he stays, but wish him the best if he decides to accept either position.

The 3rd OT 3 point attempt had to be attempted...we were down 3. The 1st and 2nd OT 3 point attempts...not so much. I would have driven to the basket both times. You had a chance to make the basket or get fouled. If not...move on to the next OT. Not sure that CBB didn't call for a drive, but based on his past coaching on considering his experience coaching from the past...probably not.

It was a pathetic look for us, but not surprising.

Yes agree with that. Coach Brownell gets to the NCAAT this season he would be considered a secondary type option if their top wish list all say no.

Coach Brownell has a similar resume that Mark Pope who was hired at Kentucky when their top candidates said no last season.

My honest opinion is Brownell has been at Clemson long enough. Successful corporations other than ultra successful ones, don't retain CEO's anywhere near this long. If the Hoosiers want him take him. Clemson basketball is at a ceiling. Last was a peak. Once every 7-10 years of a strong run is what the program is. Unless we are gonna hut 3 or 4 4-5 star players it's reality. Take his buyout money from them and move on.
