Dude we've won championships with lesser rated OL prospects. Hard work and determination will decide how much PT he gets...

Don’t talk to coach Mac like that, he is still trying to calculate the mathematical possibility of his coots getting in the playoffs!
The easy answer is that if 127 teams disappear from existence. That’s the answer to the coots getting in.

Players like this have a unique connection with Dabo and Clemson. They work extremely hard and are motivated to succeed and contribute. Nolan Turner, the Davis Twins, et al. Plus we have a history of developing real players especially in the O line.

Lots of 3 star ol get drafted. They have the worst position group bust rate of 5 star athletes if I had to guess.
I’m sure comments like this are good motivation for the Hunter Renfrows of the world.

Very flawed & inane analogy, but your point is sound: HR is an anamoly, referenced ad nauseum, in support of weak arguments & dubious opinions; as if a find of his value is a common occurrence.

You can never have enough OL. With last years recruits and now 6 more, the Tigers are looking good. I remember 2 years ago when getting OL was a hot topic. It looks like its settling out.
BTW, back then I looked up the star rating for the starting OL in the Super Bowl and the majority were 3 star recruits coming out of high school.

however, about half of all rated recruits are 3* prospects so it's not too shocking that a lot of 3* guys make the NFL.

How are all those 5 star OL starters and backups doing at UGA? They just average 200 yards rushing per game. While with 3 and 4 star OL, Clemson has averaged 256+. Looking at comparisons, CU had 411 yards rushing against GT, 121 against TA&M and 211 against Uof6C while UGA had 219 v GT, 97 v A&M, and 173 v Uof6C.
Don't put too much stock into the stars for OL. It's a tough position to evaluate and anybody's guess to how they will develop physically and skill wise.

To scout OL in the offseason. The best ones seem to grow into the position while they play.
It’s always interesting to see the OL on NFL rosters. They come from everywhere and places you wouldn’t expect

It’s pretty clear it seems like Dabo gets one kid a year he takes that’s a little under the radio. Many times those are from bama -Dabo knows the kids Dad, that’s another common theme on Dabo’s guys. -The kid will probably play center I bet and will Probably start two years for us -taking a 6th OL maybe means we are our on Burch and they re-allocated the number to a need since I think we are losing what 5 OL this year? -Dabo and Robbie are both really good evaluators. I know what Robbie looks for with OL that he thinks he can develop (I worked with him at two schools) and he does a really good job developing those players esp inside guys. -No one develops players better than this staff, kid will be good stop worrying .

Kind of hard to get excited when I see he wasn't even offered by Bama but I do realize no other staff is better at developing players than Clemson (Isaiah Simmons, Hunter Renfo, etc....). As always in Dabo I trust. Welcome to the Tiger Nation.

Part of it has to do with the evaluation as well. We didn't climb the ladder over the last 10 years simply because of developing guys. A lot of it was due to catching things the bigger name schools (at the time) missed.

I know I’ll get fried here for making a comment like this. The culture seems to be you can’t say anything less than positive or you get attacked.
Dabo has a tendency to burn slots with offers to kids of friends. Maybe every coach does this. But to maintain this level, we need 4 and 5 star lineman (specifically), not 3 stars. The lines are the one area we can step up our game, and we should be able to recruit more consistently at that level. It will be needed against Ohio St. who is loaded with 5 star linemen. With success comes the burden of increasing expectations.
Bama wasn’t even interested in this kid in state. Georgia Tech?
Let the beatings begin.

And, I hope it continues. No doubt the coaches to develop players is at the top.
But just a few years ago, our ability to land 4/5 star linemen was more limited (not the case with skill players). Now we should be able to get those lineman. Leverage the rich get richer.

So many think it’s just about choosing guys with the most stars. Dabo has proven there is more to it. Sure we need highly rated difference makers but we also need hard working blue collar guys who will RS and hang around for five years. Recruiting is a science and an art. This is why we have won two of the last three championships even though many teams have out recruited us on paper.

It's no secret Bama would love to lure Dabo away from Clemson. As an alum and former player, it would seem Bama is the one place Dabo would leave Clemson for. Our recruiting footprint has been creeping into Alabama the past couple years. Might this be Dabo starting to foster relationships with high school coaches in Alabama for later use in recruiting heavily within that state? This is probably just my paranoia speaking to me. Dabo has said repeatedly that he intends to stay at Clemson for the long haul. But the Bama fanbase's worship of Saban is starting to get a little shaky. It won't be long before they start looking for their next head coach. Better believe Dabo will be #1 on that list. Dabo /might/ be planting the seeds for recruiting in Alabama one day. Either way, we've been the beneficiary of those efforts the past couple years, and what will be, will be. Now is the time to enjoy our dominance. Go Tigers!

That some on here think they know recruiting better than Clemson's staff. I would like to know how much film they watched on this kid? Did they talk to his coach? Talk to the kid? No. They saw that a recruiting service had given him 3 stars. Good god. What a great evaluation you made.

I agree with you that stars isn’t everything. But it is a baseline for measuring the talent level of a kid. It is a part of every coach’s formula, including ours. Just sayin, our currency for attracting recruits of the 4 and 5 star level is at an all time high.
