Who did he beat out or was it an injury situation that put him in?

He's just balling out.....simple as that. And the good thing is, he's just getting started. He's getting better each week.

You are right! I love the fact he says he still has a lot to work on, he’s still hungry to get better and see the field more. If he can step up and hold down an edge spot and let PWoo move back inside and I think this Dline will be that much better!! Go Tigers

He came in at times, but every time I saw him lined up he was on the interior.

Many people questioned this signing and the Cole Turner signing. Both are starting to make major contributions in their third year in the program

Personally I love both of them as signings. Would I love to get an entire Squad of five stars? Of course but that's not rational and even Ohio State and Alabama sign some three stars Etc. Fact is Cole Turner much like brother Nolan was an absolute stud for his high school team. The kid did everything. And for everyone that wants to not knock Nolan, he BALLED. PLUS BUCKEYES! LOL. Cole is the same way. and Lawson was a heck of a ball player for Daniel. I asked a friend of mine whose son was his teammate about him. He said he could ball his butt off but he needed a little bit (lot) of maturing and attitude adjustment. This is why it's essential for these guys to be in the same program for three to five years. It's absolutely crucial for their development. Go Tigers!

I think had Jaheim Lawson played at a school like St. Thomas Aquinas, Bishop Gormon, St. Jon Bosco or IMG he would have been no less a 4-star player despite his 210 lb. weight in H.S.
**look down the height/weight of other DE then look at the school.
He played at a very good H.S. in South Carolina. I think it was held against him though; because it wasn't Florida, Georgia, Texas or Cali.
He made plenty of plays and didn't rely on just being "bigger than everyone else"! He had to work on technique.
The biggest thing most people don't understand about a 3-star is: "they are really good players who will need to gain weight or get stronger"! Higher rated players are said to "have the weight/strength and college level speed already. Or a 4-star has 3 of 4 factors where a 3-star has 2 of 4; but everything else. A 5-star has all 4 factors and is "out the box ready" supposedly.
Jaheim - has put on 40 lbs. of muscle and still has the cat quickness he had to rely on as a lighter DE. That spells trouble for opposing Right and Left tackles with him coming off the edge. He was missing the weight; but has it now.
