Coach Bowden was one of the good ones. I've always had a soft spot for him. Probably because he was a genuinely kind-hearted, good man.

Yeah Bobby was a good one. That's very cool that he was so kind to the new kid,who replaced his son as Coach. Get that record Dabo, down there in FLA

He used that to build the program there. I was listenting to Dabos talking about him when I saw your post and thinking how different FSU is now

Yeah, and I don't really think Norvell is a bad guy, but maybe not the best person to lead a program like FSU. However, I always thought Jimbo was a fast-talking swindler with poor ethics.
To me, it's not enough to be a good/great coach. I don't want you here if you're not a man of character. It would feel dirty with the likes of Petrino, Freeze, or Meyer leading your program. But I guess wins mean more than anything else in a lot of places.

Bobby and Dabo had a great relationship.

Dabo has told the story that when he got the job (as a result of Tommy being fired) he was concerend that the Bowden family would - understandably - get the wrong impression that Dabo was somehow involved in the decision to get Tommy fired. He said on that same day Bobby called him and assured him that no one in the family thought that. He congratulated Dabo, told him not to worry about Tommy, all coaches understand the results if you don't win, and then wished him the very best. Dabo has related through the years how much that call helped him at that point.

Coach Bobby Bowden was a great individual and coach and mentor and I am glad they named the field after him.

Not to speak ill of the dead, but I have a slightly different take on “good ol Bobby”. I’m not sure that him “claiming” Dabo as one of his own is necessarily a good thing. I’m far more comfortable with Dabo’s actual ties to Bama vs some pseudo connection to Free Shoes Univ.
