There is a time/place for that, and it’s not in public at a press conference. The refs are better at their job than you have been Dabo, and they get paid far less.

Bad call period. By the way the Supervisor of the football officials is Alberto Riveron and if you look at ACC staff directory on theacc.com the emails are the first letter for their first name and their last name with the at sign the ACC.org in case anyone wants to send Mr Riveron an email about that bad call although they do not list his email address or their last name supervisors of the basketball officials.

In deed under ideal circumstances- but that won or lost the Game for Clemson. A first year high school Football official would have called that opi. The ref just missed the call plain and simple. Could have been out of position but other officiating eyes were also watching it. Awful Call Period.

Folks need to send Dabo to the film room. The receiver was being held all the way down the route. There is a video on X from the endzone. It was agood call. Even if you disagree, it certainly wasn't "the worst". Dabo is devolving into self-pity.

Then why not call holding (?) and a whole lot earlier and not wait until the ball was well under thrown! It was not DPI if anything D holding could have been called. But by the time he threw the flag it had turned into OPI.

Wrong. His comments were spot on..officials must have accountability. In a game winning situation like that , in last 10 mins of game, coaches should get a free review. Clemson lost but that official waited until after the play and then threw flag…never should have got to that point but the officials have to have accountability…

So you are admitting that the referee made the wrong call. Defensive holding would have placed the ball at the 9 yard line with Duke having a first down. Big difference. Go back to the line of scrimmage and there was probably offensive holding there that was not called.

The broader strokes of my post that your missing is that we are not recruiting/coaching/developing defensive backs in a way that they consistently providing good coverage without incurring one of the two highly subjective penalties thrown for poor coverage.

When you don’t teach good technique, or don’t have the talent (both coaching failures at the end of the day), you can’t get upset when you put it in the hands of someone paid a lot less to be good at their job.

1. It wasn’t holding…they called dpi…
2. There was and very often is a lot of hands contact between the players…as long as the op wasn’t pulled, or bumped off his route by dp while ball is in flight…that is only called rarely and usually generates tremendous amount of reaction since contact is permissible.
3. The pass was uncatchable, as it was thrown, by any receiver.
4. The op was pushing through the dp to try to get to an open spot but on this play the dp was way ahead of the op’s route and got pushed to the ground by op. If anything it should have been opi.
5. 2 things can be true at once…it was a bad call that probably cost us a win and we should have played better enough not to leave it in the hands of refs on one play but I agree w another tnetter that said we played good enough to win duke didn’t until that call…and they scored on our very porous secondary with their “second chance”
6. While the def was atrocious yet again, the off put up a great fight and we should have won.
7. There’s no better forum to make this claim in spite of the fine…I’m not knowledgeable of the league rules (prob nothing could be done about the loss but the refs definitely should be fined/suspended upon the leagues review )if there is one…

Go Tigers!!

The penalty was questionable but didn't cost us the game.
There were 2 worse calls after that. The defensive play call that allowed the TD and the defensive play call that allowed the 2 pt conversion.
The ref's flag didn't beat us, poor coaching did.

The problem I had with the call was when the flag was thrown. The ball hit the ground then the flag was thrown. There was holding at the top of the route, throw the flag. The contact directly in front of the official was incidental or offensive pass interference. That is what I believe the flag was thrown for and he was replaying it in his head and decided to throw the flag late. It confused me and a lot of other fans.
In the gambling world we are in now, college officials should be payed as full time employees like the NFL during season and undergo training throughout the offseason to help them remain sharp. This allows for them to get paid more appropriately for the job that they do and to hold them accountable to a higher standard.

Dabo said that.

Did y'all listen to his entire press conference?

He started off by saying, "IT SHOULD NOT HAVE COME DOWN TO ONE PLAY," and he REPEATEDLY said that it was a coaching problem, that they had multiple opportunities to win the game that they didn't capitalize on, that CLEMSON LOST by not playing well.

Dabo said that over and over and over.

However, that doesn't excuse a bad call.

The ESPN/ACCN broadcasters went over THE ENTIRE PLAY, from the line of scrimmage to the flag call, showing the amount of MUTUAL tugging going on but they pointed out that the defender (Clemson) was playing the ball when the offensive player threw him to the ground. That's where they felt it crossed the line to OPI & the flag was thrown at that time, making them think that was the call, also.

Did y'all even watch the game? Or do you just read these articles & run your mouths? I watch the games & every post game show & read the media. Even the commentators at theScore.com said they wouldn't blame Clemson fans for being in that 1% of fans who have a legit claim that the refs robbed their team of the victory with a bad call. Every article I've read - places that are not ACC or Clemson oriented - agrees with Dabo.

Clemson played a sloppy game, Dabo acknowledged that, but it doesn't excuse a bad call.

I think Dabo was right to complain about that call. Also think we should start a fund to show the ACC gurus that we support Dabos and other coaches right to complain. There should be some process to ask that a referee call be reviewed, otherwise the Referees are in a position to control the outcome of a game. Imagine you are a referee and have placed a bet on a game and you are watching your money leave your wallet if team A wins. Might be a motivation for a bad call. Especially if the ref knows there is no process for review. Mind you I'm not saying this bad call was motivated by anything. Im just supposing a 'what if'. If all who support Dabo's right to complain donated $10.00 to Clemson Athletics (Fine Fund) to show support and keep the ACC Gurus from taking money out of anyone elses pocket. Remember when IPTAY stood for I pay 10 a year? Now I'm showing my age.

Well, again, it should not have come to that BUT the bottom line is the officials have NO ACCOUNTABILITY at this point. They do not have to justify anything they do to anyone. There is no recourse and they are simply cowards and will not stand up for their decisions.
This is not just this game but across the board and something needs to be done. There are enough bad things ruining the game and a bunce of poorly trained and unprepared folks out there ruling the games and getting whatever outcome they want - gee I wonder why a ref may have something to gain by making a certain call???? Basketball just got busted for prop play fixing - the refs gave our game away, the refs gave GT the win against Wake and you can go on and on across the NCAA and NFL for that matter.
Until someone has to stand up and justify their calls it will not get any better. Remember when there was movement to CHALLENGE calls - what happened to that???
In this case I am all in for you Dabo - 10K is what you find in your car seat so you go for it and don't let up!

Has it occurred to any of you that coaches who lose too many games lose their jobs. Sure, they make more money than the officials, but an official making a bad call that costs an already struggling team a win, can cost a coach on the hot seat his job. Fortunately, that won't be the case here, but there are plenty of places where it could be the last straw for a coach and his AD. There is no argument that our defense stunk up the field, but they won those last 4 downs. As for the talent on the field, the CU player in question will be playing on Sundays.

I agree 100% with Coach about being able to challenge that type of call especially on 4th down with the game on the line. Refs make mistakes but you'll never ever hear about them because it's not in the best interest of the sport. Well, times have changed and it's more of a business than a sport now so the refs should be accountable for their actions.

Some good and some bad points made on both sided of the DPI vs OPI. If I make a mistake in my job, I have to answer to my boss. If I fail on a procedure, I have to answer to my Chief of Staff. If I misdiagnose a test result, I have to answer to a Review Board. In all of these scenarios, I get a chance to address the charges. If I erred, there is the chance that I lose my ability to practice. The problem, as I view it, is that Dado, and any current University coach is not afforded the opportunity to openly present his grievance without fear or retribution. He openly admitted many times that the reason they lost was NOT due the officiating. But I do believe the officiating DID cost them the game. Maybe just semantics to some, but not in my view. Good officials and good officiating in College appears to have digressed in the recent years, all with no oversite or open discussion. Other than the occasional "reprimand" or "suspension" of an official or crew or that that next day memo to the loing team that "An error was made on a official's call," they tend to protect their secret profession. Losses are death nails in the coaching profession and bad officials should not contribute to adding to the reason a coach is dismissed...I believe that has contributed to some firings in the past. I also believe Dado welcomed the fine and reprimand. He wanted to plant the seed to consider a possible "coaches challenge review." But there is much more of his point, its like the General who circles his troops after a battle...to show that he has their back and is in the fight WITH and FOR them. Maybe sly as a fox...would not put that past him. Go Dabo and Go TIGERS.

The problem is that you could call OPI or DPI on a lot of plays...

There's so much "hand fighting" nowadays. The receivers are pushing off to get separation, and defenders are hanging on and grabbing jerseys to stay tight. I'd hate to be a ref and make that split-second call in real time, but that's the job.

Yeah, I agree. It seems we're moving more and more to the NFL model on calls. Agree with other posters saying with all the money and a pseudo NFL model, it's past time to have NFL refs... at minimum for the p4 games.

I'm also totally against reviews. It's already getting ridiculous. Hate to see any game come down to a call but watch any game current or past and they're always calls. Over the course of a season, it usually balances out.

As for Dabo, there was a time that he wouldn't have ever addressed the issue. In fact, one time he was asked, he said he'd leave that to the media. Oh well. The sun did indeed come up.

Go Tigers!!! Bball today at 11 and 7.

With so much legalized betting (aka Gambling) now and corruption available, College leagues and their higher ups need to act NOW to be as transparent as possible. I think it is very easy for an official to "see," "not see" or "unsee" a penalty. We have seen "questionable" calls/no calls for years, especially in the College game, with coaches not afforded the opportunity to challenge a call during the game or "keep their mouth shut" for fear of reprimand and monetary retribution after a game. I'm sure Neff got a second call from the ACC advising him to talk to Dabo regarding his "doubling down."

I had a college buddy who later became a college basketball official. He got out of the profession as he said that he sees lots of corruption in it. He noted that he thins that 97% of officials try to do their job the best they can and, at times, make an error. One thing he told me educated me and was so obvious. There are those plays toward the end of games, say the last four minutes or so, that coaches and fans point out. But he said that it's the "phantom" calls/non-calls throughout the game where "corruption" takes place. It's what he called the "nothing to see here" during the game that's easy to hide as we tend to focus on the next play. Sometimes that's not enough and have to be taken care of at game's end and that's when the questioning comes into play.

The NCAA for 75 years had failed to recognize that they were sitting fat, dumb and stupid in their ivory towel and the Courts forced them to be accountable...result NIL and open TP.

If they, and the conferences don't step in NOW and address this issue, the Courts and Congress will, and we all know what a "cluster" and "FUBAL" that will be!

If you made it to this point, I thank you. CU'73
